Storage Solutions Another Seagate HDD Failed

Hi,
Storage totally suck these days.
High price with low warranty and no reliability.
Recently my internal 500GB Seagate 7200.12 SATA HDD started making sound like tik, tik, tikk.
I'm afraid it gonna kaput soon or later.
Warranty almost at an end.
have to check and make sure about that.
Bad thing new refurbished HDD don't survive much.
Worst thing I can't even afford a boot drive now.
SSD out of budget and Blue WD(500GB/640GB/1TB) not easily available. :(
If available price will be huge I guess.

Now,can I make sure using HD Tune if the HDD need immediate RMA or not ?
Which version should I use ?
Please post link if possible.

DVD's are going to become the main storage medium soon.

Nope.
DVDs have even shorter life span and unless it's something that's absolutely essential, storing any other data like movies and songs on DVDs consume lots of time and money. A couple of months back there was a wonderful article explaining pitfalls involving DVDs.

Can you post a link to that article?

Old HD Tune showing nothing but when I tried with new version.
It shows Ultra DMA CRC Error Count
Number of interface communication errors:2

But,when I ran chkdsk at DOD mode it showing nothing(no bad sectors).

Seriously Seagate HDD quality standards have dropped, my 500GB disk bought last year only, failed three days ago, I restarted my PC and the it was not detecting, finally after much hassle and using linux recovery I found out that the partition table and corrupted, but luckily I got my data back

One of my 500GB 7200.12 Seagate failed 3 times(2 times refurbished) in two years.
This one started problem after a year or a little more.

It was about the new "M-Disc" format in CHIP magazine about 2-3 months back. I don't think it is on their website.

Thanks.

Not a regular reader of Chip but do have last 2 months magazines hopefully I will find it there. If not I guess I will have to wait for it to appear in Chip Archive.
