Antec NEO HE 500 Review

Hi guyz, i bought a Antec NEO HE 500 two days back:)

Here is my short review on the same.

Lemme start with some show off :D

The Box

NEO HE and the cables

Sleeved cables

Specifications

Backside of the smps

24 pin connector can b used with older ATX motherboard with 20pins by detaching the 4 pins(sry for the bad qulaity pic)

Features:
  • ATX 12V v2.2 and EPS 12V complaint
  • SLI Ready
  • Advanced Cable Management
  • Active PFC
  • Up to 85% efficiency
  • Three +12V rails
  • 2 PCIe graphics card power Connectors
My Impression:

The NEO HE has a stunning looks, pretty heavy(2.5~2.6kgs). Installation was easy for me thanks to the modular and the sleeved cables :), but still i used up 6 Molex connectors.

Testing:

Test Rig:
  • AMD Athlon 64 3000+(Overclocked to 2.7Ghz @ 1.65vcore)
  • DFI Lanparty UT Ultra-D
  • Transcend DDR400Mhz 2*1Gb Micron -5BD
  • Seagate 160GB SATA
  • BIG 6600GT 128MB Pcie(overclocked to 541/1160)
Since i didn't have the Digi cam during the test, i can't show the pictures of the DMM readings:(.

Anyway Here are my Readings with DMM and Everest Home Edition.

For info:
  • RAIL 1 is 8pin EPS connector
  • RAIL 2 is 24pin mobo connector/1st and 2nd socket on the psu from left.
  • RAIL 3 is the 3rd/4th/5th socket on the PSU
@Idle:

DMM value for
  1. +12V rail 11.98V
  2. +5V rail 4.98V
  3. +3.3V rail 3.27V

Everest Screenshot:

@Load(SP2004+ RTHDRIBL demo)

DMM value for
  1. +12V rail 11.93V
  2. +5V rail 4.98V
  3. +3.3V rail 3.27V

Everest Screenshot:

I was little(very little) disappointed at the 12V rail readings in DMM, but it was rock stable at those value at idle as well as on load(Everest Readings are crap).

But the droop noticed in everest as well as in DMM for 12V rail is around .05 to .06, which i think is quite good. The 3.3V and 5V rails are stable and no droop seen.

Pros:
  • Stable smps
  • Active PFC
  • Modular and Sleeved cables
  • Good value for money(Bought it for Rs.6200/-)
  • Silent
  • Its the most efficient PSU in the market after the Seasonic S12 series.
  • Detachable 4-Pin attachment for older motherboard supporting 20-pin connectors.
  • AQ3(Antec Quality 3years warranty)-IMHO This one really rocks:ohyeah:

Cons:

  • 1.12V rail is only 11.98(for me atleast)
  • The biggest con is the incompatibility that existed with the older batches and asus boards.

_______________

Spcl. Thanks to:
  • Superczar for giving me his DMM(he gave it 3 months back though:P)
  • Chaos, sandy, eddy who insisted me on buying this smps.
  • Karan for telling me to review this smps:)
  • And all other TE members:D
Hope you guyz liked my first Review on a Hardware:). Comments please

I think so...

But let Chaos / Ad1 confirm it once, I haven't really followed the NeoHE story closely except that mine is A3, broken sticker (Means Fixed PSU)

i got myself with broken sticker.........
see i'm confirmed if your one is manufactured on 05 then it shud have broken sticker if on 06 it doesnt matters.
now be a good boy and tell us when it was manufactured. :D

its manufactured in 05 only:P, so i guess no Asus boards for me:no:

A good attempt.
although the review does not contain much technical details or conclusions the good thing is that it is an honest review ...you know "straight from the heart" kind of thing.

although one cannot review / write about a psu much unless you open it and describe the components in detail.
and truly loading the psu (loading using high wattage resistors) to find its limits eventually leads to its failure most of the times, which i am sure nobody in their right mind will attempt unless it is donated by the co. itself for this very purpose.

ps: can anybody please tell me what is this "issues" with asus m/b's all about ?? A link will do. want to know exactly what are the issues and what has antec modified in the psu ...
Thanking in advance....
