Sorry for posting something like this, I know most people will ask me to visit my general physician(which I already did)..
I've started getting hiccups since day before after dinner.. It hasn't stopped since.. Only stops for a while and then it comes right back. There's no general trigger factor either, coz it comes without any particular action.. even sitting idle sometimes triggers it..
Even now when posting here its going on n on n on..
Any doctors here who by any chance faced such a condition before? If so you were able to treat it, please lemme know how..

P.S: Drinking lots of water, holding breath, sugar under the tongue everything has been tried, been taking pills since y'day which the doc prescribed.. NO USE!

TIA~

1

Hold your breath for 30 seconds and then release it.

#

Step 2

Breathe into a paper bag five times in a row.

#

Step 3

Sip 10 consecutive gulps slowly from a glass of water without stopping to take a breath.

#

Step 4

Immerse your face in ice-cold water for 30 seconds.

#

Step 5

Swallow a teaspoon of dry white granulated sugar.

#

Step 6

If you began to hiccup after taking a medication, seek medical help. Also see a doctor if the hiccups don't stop after 24 hours (3 hours for young children) of if they are extremely painful.

I suggest u see a doc.

There may be a laceration in your throat.get it checked with an ENT surgeon.doc may require an endoscope for diagnosis ,so it would be better to visit a reputed hospital. (disclaimer:i am a dental doc)

Hey this is a medical condition. I remember seeing it on Ripley's Believe It Or Not. Anyway, go see a doc.

taken from wikipedia.
Persistent and intractable hiccups due to electrolyte imbalance (hypokalemia, hyponatremia) may benefit from drinking a carbonated beverage containing salt to normalize the potassium-sodium balance in the nervous system. The carbonation promotes quicker absorption. Carbonated beverages have though by themselves a tendency to provoke hiccup in some persons.

Digital rectal massage has been recommended as a remedy that causes immediate cessation of hiccups and which should be tried before resorting to drugs

These are something you can be aware of.

What did the doctor prescribe? Just take that. Nothing else.

I am a doc, so IMO the best way to find out would be to go a GI specialist and talk to him/her. You will have to get some tests done at the most. Try and remember how and when the hiccups started. Could be due to something you ate, or swallowed.

Hiccups are basically caused by the irritation of the Diaphragm. At best, get an endoscopic evaluation done, so that the doctor may visualize any kind of causative agent. All this has to be done only after you consult a GI specialist.

Medpal being an ENT specialist may be able to throw more light on this.

just came back from another doc, got 2 shots, one of them is a mild anesthetic.. he also said that such cases don't need a trigger factor.. will see over the next 12 hours followed up with a dosage of tabs.. bloody hell, who would ever think hiccups would be a problem :(

P.S: I had some non-spicy chicken the before it started, doc said not coz of the chicken..

wat did the doc prescribe?

try **************** 50mg

No offense, but please do not prescribe anything without seeing the patient physically. And this is not some software to just "try".

EDIT: @sathyanaidu: As others have pointed out, a GI/ENT specialist would be the best person to cure you. Get well soon.

if you close your ears tightly with your fingers in them for about 5-10 mins it should stop.

imo its imbalance of air inside your body. but i'm like a quack, so take this lightly.

No dude. The Phrenic Nerve supplies the Diaphragm. It never sits on it. And that is not the funda.

:hap2: Great!!!!!

@ sathyanaidu: Take a second opinion from a doctor rather than expecting any sane advice from people here. People are who doctors will end up saying the same thing, whereas some people with normal hiccups who see a lot of House M.D. shows end up suggesting pills. Last thing you want to be, is a pill popping junkie!
