Hey all,

I just got an Android Nexus 5. Originally it came with KitKat 4.4.2. Update for KitKat 4.4.4 was available when I started the phone.

Have been waiting for the Android Lollipop update for the phone, but haven't got it yet. Reading on the internet, it seems that Android 5.0 had several issues with Nexus 5, and that now Android 5.0.1 update is being rolled out to Nexus 5 phones. So, I guess the update that will be available will be Android 5.0.1

Anyone having Nexus 5 has got the Android 5.0.1 update yet?

Thanks for replying.

You both talking about Android 5.0 or Android 5.0.1?

If 5.0.1, when did you guys get the update?

I am wondering when will I get it. Been waiting for it.

I got it last month. Hang on you will get it.

you can flash the image posted by Google if you cant wait but that will reset your device.

Hmm... sucks to wait for so long :D. Hope I get it soon. Yes, I know I can flash it, but I would like to wait for the official OTA release. Thanks a lot guys.

My brother also had purchased Nexus 5 last Sunday and out of box, it had prompted us to download 4.4.4 update. I don't think he also had got Lollipop update yet, else he would have asked me what to do.

Thanks @raksrules :). Well, I guess, they might be rolling out 5.0.2, so should get it in a few days. Will post here when I get it.

I was expecting 5.0, but after reading on internet, was waiting for 5.0.1, but I think the update will now be 5.0.2. Maybe that's why the delay in rolling out the Lollipop update, because they released the updated version. Hopefully, the bugs will have been squashed in this latest version.

Because of this update, I haven't been switching to the new phone yet, and have been using my old phone instead.

I want to switch to the new phone after the Lollipop update, because it will be a fresh update, as I haven't installed any apps yet, or even set up my account.

I just had a talk with my cousin, who happens to have Nexus 5 too. He got the phone 5-6 months ago, and currently, he has Lollipop 5.0.1 on his phone.

He is complaining about Lollipop, and is advising me not to update to Lollipop for now. Seems like the issues are happening with 5.0.1 too.

He says that apps crash all the time. Battery drain is happening. Flashlight cannot be used for long time, otherwise, the phone gets heated up and crashes.
One time, his app drawer became empty, and phone had to restarted to get everything back to normal.

Atleast he is not facing the Wifi connectivity issue, but he said that it's occurring in rare cases.

He has not received 5.0.2 yet, but he should receive it soon. I have requested him to give me feedback about 5.0.2 performance, when he receives it.

This made me give things a second thought, and therefore, I have decided not to go for the Lollipop update, even if it arrives soon, and continue with KitKat instead. I will update to Lollipop only when all issues, or atleast major issues are dealt with. Don't want my new phone to go all crazy with Lollipop.. it would really make me mad.

Also, my cousin says that after updating to Lollipop, even if you perform a factory reset, it will reset to Lollipop only, and not to KitKat.

To tackle this, can one download official ROM of KitKat, and keep it, and install it on phone? But, I guess that will void the warranty, right? And might cause with further updates too?

My cousin was also saying about 5.1, a major update, which will release towards the end of January, but I haven't read anything yet on this, and I will have to search to confirm it.[DOUBLEPOST=1420809411][/DOUBLEPOST]Read up, and found that Lollipop 5.1 update is scheduled for February. I guess I will wait till then, and after that, to see how the update performs, before I decide to upgrade.

I got the 5.0.1 update notification on my phone today. Quite strange to receive it, since I read that 5.0.1 was pulled for Nexus 5, and probably 5.0.3, or 5.1 would be available as and when Google release it.

Anyways, for now, I am thinking of not updating to 5.0.1, and wait for any later updates. Although I have read articles that say that 5.0.1 update is working well for them, but it hasn't worked well at all for my cousin. So, I guess I will wait.

@raksrules , did your cousin get the update? Did he update to Lollipop yet?

Infact I also have downloaded (automatically happened) 5.0.1 on my nexus 7 2012 tablet but since mine is rooted and all, I dont plan to install it.
I just don't know how to remove that damn fixed notification and delete the downloaded update.

My phone started acting up. Frequent reboots when ever power button is pressed. Restarted around 15 times so far today. Seems like many are having this problem on nexus 5 with 5.0.1

I too have a Nexus 7 2012 tablet which mainly my mother uses. Got the Lollipop update for it, and installed it too. 5.0 felt a bit laggy, but 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 did not have any issues, and it's working well. If you want, you can upgrade your tablet, and then root it again.

Since the update has downloaded, I don't think anything can be done :D. It's just waiting to be applied. Although, it must be downloaded somewhere on the tablet, so maybe it could be deleted. You can ask on the XDA forum I guess.

That's the thing, once a system update is there, the notification will be permanently there, and it will bug you. That's what I was thinking of, when I got the update today... that the notification will be there for months, and it will bug the heck out of me.

@haiprazzad, sorry to hear about the troubles on your phone man. My cousin faces these reboots too, and because of that, I am not willing to update my phone to Lollipop 5.0.1

You can try some tips here for the various issues on Nexus 5 with Lollipop and see if it helps. Specially, the one about recovery cache may work.

This article was found as a link on this one, when I was reading about Lollipop update. Nexus 5 seems to be working well with 5.0.1 update for the author of the article.

If nothing works, then you can try flashing the official KitKat image from Google. Can provide you with the link if you want.

^^thanks for the links. I didn't wait for 5.0 OTA and flashed the image myself. Didn't face reboot issues, then I got 5.0.1 OTA, after applying it, slowly the problem started. I crossed it thinking my power button got stuck, even now I am confused, if the problem is with software why isn't it consistent? But as so many others are also facing this I am not sure anymore.

I took nandroid backup before flashing 5.0
still reluctant to go back :D.

That's the problem with Lollipop on Nexus 5.. some are having less issues, and some are having many. It's really a shame that so many users are facing problem with Android L.

That's why I will wait before getting a stable release. However, that permanent notification about the update is going to tempt me a lot :D. I am tempted even now, because the phone is new, and I can flash it, if I face trouble.. but again, why take the risk.
