I have 2 pairs of earphones - PL30 and Stock samsung earphones which are bundled with mobile

Both earphones are having same kind of problem, both are semi working type

1] PL30 - the right earphone doesnt work at all, first it used to work and the problem it had was of cable i guess because the earphones used to work when i hold the cable in a certain way and now i havent used these since a couple of months

2] Samsung earphones - It is also having same type of problem as before but this is still in working condition, the right one has problem,e.g when i walk the cable oscillates and this causes the earphone to work sometimes and sometimes not

I googled for this problem and found that SOLDERING can help me

I am a commerce student and know nothing about soldering, can anyone help me or anyone who knows how to solve this ? i m from mumbai

Or do i need to throw these

I have PL30 in semi working condition. I am not able to figure out how to open it.. I can solder there after. Any clues.

Open what exactly? Is the problem with the in-ear drivers or the TRS jack?

Err...i have got a solution...maybe a brutal one :P

The earphone problem might be due to the 3.5" jack. The internal connection within the jack might have got loose due to regular usage. You can cut off the jack and get a new 3.5"-male jack from the market and solder the wires to it. The jack will have 3-terminals - right, left and gnd. Just check the wiring with a multi-meter, to determine the wires of the earphone.

Hope i am clear

One more brutal solution :)

If you are not so good at soldering, you'll surely find it difficult to solder a jack to the wires.
As CA50 mentioned, most probably the loose contact will be near the jack, or the wire which is close to the jack.

You could cut off the jack and some portion of the connecting wire out of any useless headphones (if you have one lying around), or you could use one of those cables with 2 stereo jacks (the ones that come with tuner cards etc). If you dont have such a cable, you could buy one for cheap from an electronics store.

Now cut off the wire from your PL30 from near the jack (say about 10 cms from the jack). Try connecting the wires from the PL30 to the chopped off jack+wire combination (from the cable/old headphone). If your loose connection was near the jack, your headphone should be working now. If it still doesnt work, try chopping off more of the wire from your headphone till you cross the point where the loose connection was.

Now even if you dont want to solder it's fine. Just leave the wires connected properly and wrap with an insulating tape taking care that the wires don't touch, and you are done :) I've done the same with one of my headphones and it's working fine for the past 1 year (but I did solder the wires to ensure a proper connection).

the problem in my samsung earphones is not near the jack, its near the splitting area where one wire gets split into 2 and there is this button - hope you understood what i mean to say

and the problem in pl30 is at the earbud area where is the end of the wire and beggining of the earbud - sounds foolish to explain but i have never explained these types of things :(

so what to do now ?

Same here.

My PL30 left ear bud contact is loose. Upon moving the wire, it works at a particular position. So I was thinking if somehow I could open the same, it can be soldered. I tried but could not do that.

Another brutal way - I could get another broken PL30, cut its left ear bud and do a organ transplant :P :P
