My sis needs only the musical part of a song. How do I silence the singer ?? I have an Audigy 2 ZS wit hthe usual software. Ceative Mediasource and all...

I tried using the Karaoke.... didnt work.

any other suggestions ???

use goldwave. it has an option 'reduce vocals' ... give it a try.

Reduce Vocals

Use this effect to reduce vocals in music. In some stereo recordings it is possible to remove vocals by subtracting the left and right channels. In order for this to work perfectly, vocals must be identical (recorded equally) on both the left and right channels. If there is any stereo echo or reverb applied to the recording, vocals cannot be removed completely.

Note that any instruments recorded equally on both channels will be removed along with the vocals. This is unavoidable.

Usually subtracting the left and right channels destroys the stereo sound, giving mono output. However, by integrating a bandstop filter, GoldWave is able to restore some of the stereo, enhancing the output. Try the Reduced vocals with more stereo preset. Bring the From and To filter values closer together for increased stereo (increases the vocals) or farther apart for reduced stereo (decreases the vocals).

I tried goldwave.... It does not reduce the vocas. The overall volume gets reduced. That's all....

unless your input file was a multi-track audio with a separate vocals track, the best any software can do is filter the 1000-5000hz range from your track in which most vocals would lie

Most softwares can only remove some part of the singer's volume. If u overdo it, it would effect the background music too.

Try Karafun (http://www.karafun.com/), i have tried it and it's good (and free).

It supports a proprietary file format. You can get some free karafun files on the net which contains only background music.

the audigy 2ZS karaoke is quite good at removing vocals . you have to give credit to creative where it's due. IF it cant remove it , i doubt if anything can :(

try to get the original CD or a high bitrate STEREO Mp3

Vocal removers prefer high bitrate tracks , and work best on stereo tracks

^ Or if its a western track, buy the Karaoke version for USD 2 from any of the Karaoke websites.
