Graphic Cards Anyone got their VRAM repaired? Debating whether to buy a new GPU or repair my 2080.

Following this for my (presumed dead) 3080. Dig some reddit post, thinking to visit this Saturday.

Not true. Maybe for lower end GPU like 1050/1650 or below but for RTX 2080 changing a VRAM chip isn't that hard of a task (for someone who has required equipment and knows soldering). Biggest problem is acquiring a working VRAM chip probably from a donor board or through shipping direct from china.

I know someone from youtube who repairs GPUs, motherboards, PSU etc. and doesn't charge that much but his queue of pending orders is huge. I'm talking about 50+ costumers with some sending multiple cards to him so he's always busy and never manages to finish his repairs in time. This is probably true for most repair shops so unless there's one near your location where you can go and get it fixed on the spot (as they will probably give it priority) you should just buy a separate GPU and get rid of this card.

Also have you confirmed its really a VRAM issue by ruling out other components like RAM or windows itself ? or testing the GPU memory modules through a memory test software?

Bad news is memtest didn't work. Unable to detect GPU :(

Listen, I’m not taking any accountability for this shop, but one of my friends recommended it to me. I also have a GTX 1060 that has similar issues to yours, and I’ve been wanting to visit the shop myself, but I’ve been too busy. If you’d like, you can go there and have them check your GPU.

I don't live in Delhi, I live Hyderabad. So that is a no go. Anyways sold the broken GPU
 
Hi, a cousin of mine in bangalore got his 3070 repaired recently. The issue he had started with artifacting(horizontal green lines) and eventually no display out with the GPU showing as unknown device in the device manager. He did all basic troubleshooting to no luck. Came across an ad in one of the pc reselling hardware whatsapp groups about a guy offer GPU repairs. I warned him against doing it as i was very skeptical about it. But he went thru with it, he sent the card to guy's place in mumbai/pune(im not sure). The repair guy was in communication all along, updating my cousin form the moment he received the card. He said it is memory failure issue(im not sure if it really was) and said it'd cost around 5k. My cousin agreed and went on with it. He fixed it, showed videos of it running and sent it back. Charges 300-500 for consulting, shipping is on us and tells us what the issue and if it is fixable. If we agree he goes ahead. He warns of 80% success rate even if we agree on going ahead with the fix.
Reading the comments above it might as well be some other issue that he resolved easily and charged for it but hey it worked.
I say this to show there maybe a way to fix your issue but yeah, On your own risk. I mean what else CAN we do with dead GPU's?

I have always wondered/thought about this. Like a car mechanic who could say whatever he/she wants and charge any amount while the fix is very simple. Either you know the guy is trusted or always have a fear of getting ripped off. In the end like you said, what else can we do.

Btw to anyone who's looking for a repair shop in your proximity, your best bet would be to figure out areas that are like "nehru place" in your proximity and visit it by yourself. Where there are tech shops there are almost always tech repair centres as well.

They probably just bake the GPU. Failure (again) is likely guaranteed in a few months if that is the case.
