Graphic Cards Anyone got their VRAM repaired? Debating whether to buy a new GPU or repair my 2080.

thank you for sharing this was quite informative. can you perhaps elaborate how many memory chip/chiplets changed/replaced? (until now i didnt know in india people can get such memory chips)
They get it from other non-working cards (donor cards) or from china.

had the same issue with my gtx 1070 mini, is your card zotac by any chance?

Nvidia has a memorytesting utility, make it a bootable usb and try it.
It said 2 of my vram modules failed the test.

that's the thing im skeptical about as well.. who is that advanced to change memory chips and not have a official repair center to market it and make it big? it's a literal gold mind. and wont nvidia have some "checks-and-balances" to prevent such things in the firmware? if anyone can fix memory chips on GPU's, a decent part of new GPU sales might get affected.

Why do you think it's hard to change memory chips? They are literally one of the easier repairs to be done. You take one component out and replace it with an identical one. Heck someone managed to mod a RTX 3070 to 16GB (remember they only come in 8GB configuration). proof

The reason these repair centres are not making it "big" is because not every GPU that comes into their centre will have bad memory chips, some will have VRM issue, rusty port, bad core die (which means the card is effectively worthless). There's also the trouble of sourcing components from outside India and the customs you will have to pay for (and potentially bribe when asked) to acquire them. Those who say GPU can't be repaired are almost always lying unless there's a literal hole in the PCB, in which instance if there were multiple traces in the burnt portion then it's nearly impossible/not worth repairing it.
Here's some videos to watch for fun if you are interested.

If the component replaced is identical to the previous one the firmware won't know the difference. Nvidia isn't like Apple (thankfully) who inserts a unique ID into each of their phone's components which if replaced triggers their software to not function correctly.

Not everyone wants to gamble with their money and you never know if a repaired GPU will survive its expected life span.
