PC Peripherals APC UPS doubts

I am using APC ups last 1 year

i hava doubt , it contains 3 outputs labelled two as surge protection and one battery backup

while using i notice that battery backup is having the power when main power off. Is i have the ability to connect only cpu through this ups?

please help
 
Which model is it ? .Ideally it should be other way around , 2 backup and one surge . Mine 500 watt APC is like this , 2 backup and one surge . Read the manual again , it cannot be like you mentioned.

Did you actually try to turn the power off and verify the output from the UPS ?
 
The model is backup ES 500

I am sure it is labelled one as "Battery Backup plus" and two as surge protection.

Please let me clear my concern
 
I also have the same APC ES-500 model. There are only two battery backup plugs and one without backup protection. Yes on both, there's surge protection :ohyeah:

^ Yeah, He's right !
So make sure your CPU & Monitor are connected to the two points that offer battery back up.

Or just buy a power strip and attach the input of the power strip to the plug which offers battery backup.
A power strip has 4 outputs and so it will cover the PSU and monitor and modem at least.

Err...more no. of devices you connect to the point (through the power strip) offering battery backup, lesser the backup time your gonna get.
More devices = More power consumed = lesser backup time !?

Atleast not recommended for a 500VA UPS supporting a power hungry rig.:P

Of course, this also depends on what kinda devices your planning to connect.

Thats right. 500VA = 300W only
 
For an atom based rig, you can connect the all the devices except for the printer using a power strip. The model that you are using is an entry level model, so APC had cut cost by reducing the sockets. I have a similar UPS on one of my computer.

I too have the same model UPS and i am also connecting the spike to the only available Backup point.
I have connect CPU,19" LCD Monitor,Modem and 2.1 speakers.
i am able to get more than 5min backup.
surge protector i connected to my MFD printer.
I never faced any problems.
 
me too using a spike buster to connect the z5500D,BSNL modem,cell charger,Transcend esata casing with 750gb drive, from my 1100 VA APC UPS!
 
just for reference, wat wud a core i7, 3HDDs, 1 ext HDD, well..sorta top of line PC require?

Need to buy a UPS so please help.

I had a core2duo 2.66 Ghz, 2 HDD, 1 DVD along with an APC 500 VA UPS. The UPS made an overload noise when I added a 8800GTX GPU and put it under load. So I got a 800VA Mtek and it sufficed.

I guess that i7 would be more energy efficient. I guess 1 KVA system should suffice with 3 HDD. But dont expect a long backup. But I guess there are some models with which you can add external battery packs incase you want a long backup
