News Apple Announces Redesigned Mac Mini With M4 and M4 Pro Chips

Putting aside your inability to speak to anyone without assuming they're stupid, enlighten me — what is that command? As far as I can find, there is none for a Mac desktop. There's a one-liner terminal command for laptops, but it doesn't work on the mini. Which brings us back to what I said earlier, your observations are out of place as you're not someone who uses macOS on a desktop.

Anyway, I'd be happy to admit I'm wrong and learn from you if you have a solution for this, because this is something I do care about.
Mine has stopped getting updates for last 4 years. If yours is recent, the mapping is changed few years ago. A click will put it to sleep, long press will prompt to shutdown and hard long press will force shutdown. If yours too is old, you can enable tap to sleep from energy saver settings or you can try pmset.

Code:
➜ ~ pmset -g
System-wide power settings:
Currently in use:
 disksleep 0
 powernap 1
 womp 1
 networkoversleep 0
sleep 0 (sleep prevented by powerd, coreaudiod)
 Sleep On Power Button 1
 ttyskeepawake 1
 tcpkeepalive 1
 autorestart 1
 standby 0
 displaysleep 15

Code:
➜ ~ pmset -g cap
Capabilities for AC Power:
 displaysleep
 disksleep
 sleep
 womp
 autorestart
 standby
 powernap
 ttyskeepawake
 tcpkeepalive

Power management features are different for desktops and laptops, I guess. Despite Sleep On Power Button being enabled, it doesn't work. That's probably a carry-over from when I migrated my settings/data from my Macbook Pro to this M1 mini.

But thanks anyway, I didn't know about pmset.

To those who have a M4 now, how does it hold up under load? @superczar @y2s @ibose and anyone else I might have missed, my M1 regularly sees 100C under load and it's sitting in the normal position, even elevated off the desk:
Seems high for a M1 - checked the vents?

On this one, I Havent mucked around much yet but What does a heavy load mean for you?
Games like RE: Village and CP2077 had it hovering around 70 while idle is around 40-45

In contrast, my MBA M1 does around 35C idle and 75-80 under load

My Mini is intel mini and I used to reset SMC. Never had to bother about this after moving to M2 MacBook. Play around with pmset and also see if there is a way to reset power profiles to get the default behavior to work.

Coming to snapping and snipping and restoring, try Moom and BetterTouchTool. RectanglesPro works to an extent. I am using rectangles pro as I am using MBP but it does not have option to bring the arrangement back on reboot. Moom will remember the layout and bring ti back. Not ready to pay for Moom as I already paid for rectnagles and for me, it barely takes a minute to set the arrangement back on reboot (single 32" display).

Thanks. I'll need to try out a few of those, I've been using Magnet for a few years because it has keyboard shortcuts. I usually have multiple windows of the same app which is one of the reasons why they would never reopen where I left them. Atom, terminal and a few Wine wrappers.

In fact the other day I was searching for a direct plug Mickey Mouse connector on Amazon but no luck
Never seen power brick connected like that.

They're called C5 plug adapters, I got them from those forwarders/importers on Amazon that take weeks to deliver. They were about 400 to 700 each. But the power strip I'm using is a C13 power strip by MX, it resembles a PDU: https://www.amazon.in/MX-Outlet-Socket-Master-Switch/dp/B09SFT59XZ

The fit of the connectors on these are far more secure than regular 3 pin plugs and sockets and I needed something I wouldn't ever have to look at (and I haven't, after wiring them up). I also have socket to C14 adapters for converting any of the C13 connectors to a regular 3pin socket: https://www.amazon.in/FENTICO-Universal-Female-Socket-Adapter/dp/B08P7MKDQP/

The table is actually a door and it's on a stand that I had made to be at standing height with castors, so the entire setup moves around for easy cleaning.

Nice monitor setup.

Thanks, I wanted a clean look with space to put random stuff under the monitors: https://techenclave.com/threads/computer-table-top.206028/#post-2363973

When was it ? Recently ?
Yeap, couple months back. I still have it, haven't removed it. I should see how things are since the graphics updates. They're doing the lord's work making sure this puppy might outlast all macOS EOLs... assuming my Air is still alive by then.
I wonder what Steve would think if he was around
I mean, the current magic mouse design was shipped when Steve was still alive so, he'd prolly be happy with the clean look (and prolly would've pushed it even further).

Maybe they saw the outrage at Apple's pre-2024 pricing strategies and thought, 'We need some of that.'

But seriously, businesses are going to love this, a first party thin client? Sounds like a IT admin's dream.

Most of my juniors, medical doctors, earn more in insurance than they do at a hospital (Primera here offers 6LPA to MBBS freshers and you easily cross 12LPA after two years). In their day-to-day they're going over claims and files, approving or rejecting, and because of the nature of the work (US medical records), everything they're doing is over RDP and something like this is ideal for that.

I mean would use it if my workflow was browser based and I needed to tap into Azure's resources. I wouldn't have to worry about backups or security.
