The wikipedia pmp defination restricts as DIGITAL - but walkman (including the original cassette player) still the early stage of a pmp as I told all the modern digital one take it further.

also people use to carry "age old 3 kilo stereo" during 80's to streets and outdoors;which is kind of fashion-trend during those days- so somehow you may say that as a kind of pmp (personal music player)- but it was not like walkman which is truly portable
