Apple honours warranty only in country of sale, so warranty should be considered as not applicable when selling here. It will get flagged as a US model even if serial number is valid for warranty.

Not sure if direct Apple stores will help, but authorised service centres will not.
this is false, I have had few Apple devices which were US & Japan models being serviced in India within warranty period.
some service centers don't even ask for invoice, some centers ask for invoice.

I remember this has been discussed here in TE in various threads.

Hence the need for awareness. It is gamble if different service centres have different policies. Even with serial numbers, some of them flag the model as an international variant that cannot be serviced locally.

At least Samsung states it openly on their page that non-Indian variants will be serviced at cost and not under warranty, with different hardware specifications being not serviced at all.

Haven't heard that they won't service it. Only new thing is they ask for bill now, wherever the phone has been bought from.

please create a seperate thread for this topic, as someone mentioned its been discussed a handful of times already. what i understand is that apple BKC store will happily process your warranty claim without an invoice. Third party ones do ask in certain cases but its a hit or a miss with those partners.
