Seeing the amounts at which 1366 items are selling (and still lowballed) I am wondering , are 1366 users screwed???

The boards that were 26k 9 months ago are not even selling for 13k now...
And the RAM sricks are also not selling due to new and cheap 4GB sticks...

And the i7 2600k almost beats i7 980X which also brings down its value to 20-25k...

I think we really are screwed...

What is new there? PC components depreciate very fast and prices have to fall as more faster components come out into the market. Its the order of nature as far as the world of PC's is concerned.

Just a couple of weeks back, I was looking for the MSI 6970 Lightening and it was not available. I got 6950 Twin Frozr II instead for 16.1k apiece. Now The 6970 Lightning's are available for 22k and the 6950 Twin Frozr II is already down to 15.6k. That is how things go.

Its just like getting a sparkling new 6870, and realizing afterward that a 6850 would be better. This is tech world man, no one knows whats going to be the next

i think 1366 sockets still gives a lot of performance and its still going strong so users can keep using ....its always the same story with pc hardware .. when hd 5870 was launched it was 27k now people are selling it for 10k..

In 1998 I purchased PIII CPU Processor for about 13K . Now 130 Rs is all that one can get out of it.

But between 1998 to 2011 i got laid a no of times. So the users of 1366 should count how many times they get laid and not bother the depreciation on items .

So how much can one expect for his 980X ???

Considering 2600k is almost equivalent to it, and sandy extremes are coming soon too...

The i7 2600K almost beats the i7 980X when OCed to 4.5GHz, start OCing the i7 980X and there's no competition.

Well as I primarily only game on

My rig I have to say that an i5 760 doesn't really differ much in gaming pref than an i5 2500.

Of course the new ones and faster, overclock better and in a whole are better too but that same thing is applicable in everyfield of technology as well.

Another example of this are the mobile phones. A good model of a phone is replaced by another model within 6 to 12 months. So the same thing applies everywhere imho.

True, the new i5 s may make a difference when using a crazy config like HD6870 CFx or similar very very high end config.

If u want to escape that get a cheap product

like i3 530 which i got 9 months ago for 5.3 its still the same
gts 450 bought for 7.2k available at 6.8k now...

those people who have 1366 socket there is no point in upgrading..as the core i7 9xx proccy can also be overcloacked . i also own a 1366 proccy i dont feel the urge to upgrade maye be few years later i might upgrade...for now its still a very good setup

Isn't 1366 enough for you :P... It has enough potential for few years. By then even 2600K would be outdated and you would see them selling for 6 grands ;).

1. As far as gaming is concerned, at the same clock i7 2600k gives >= FPS than 980X.

2. SB can be oced more.

3. This means SB will usually give at least as many FPS if not more, and more often than not, definitely more, whether at stock or OC.

4. However, the difference in performance is usually not much and definitely not worth upgrading.

5. If somebody gifts for free, I might rather choose a 980X/990X because 6 cores and more power will probably give more smoothness and experience which FPS can't even tell.

6. Both are very good, and both are fine for now. Not much of a difference, esp for games.

The type of requirements which the current crop of games require 1366 suffices. Any one on this, need not to upgrade. But since SB is available at a decent price point people below 1366 can safely move to this.

Resale of 1366 are cannibalised though.

yeah, those who bought a i7 920 in 2008, best buy ever. Even now just OC the chip a bit, easily the best and no need to upgrade another year I say.

Staying at the top most step in technology is a expensive affair.. If you always want the latest and greatest, then you need to keep investing the same amount you invested every year over and over.

It is best to stay a couple of steps behind.. You would get 80% of the performance at 20% the price of a cutting edge product. You will still lose out within a year.. but not so much.
