afaik dell bought alienware == dell xps series

alienware != xps series......

alienware was bought out by dell.. Yes. but the brand and its products have not been stopped/merged with those of dell. it operates as a fully owned subsidary with its own target audience and market..

the xps series has existed since much before the buyout and is not in anyway related to alienware.

Hmmm.

Alienware doesn't actually make very powerful portable laptops. They make very powerful Desktop Replacements (DTRs), which are heavy to lug around and a b!tch to carry on your back, and they'll leave you unable to reproduce if you place it on your lap for too long thanks to the heat. :)

So...please tell us what do you want this laptop for?

1. Solely gaming where the laptop spends most of the time on a desk?
2. Little gaming and lots of taking it around campus and working everywhere with solid battery life?

PS: About the Alienware buy: Dell bought out Alienware. The only things common between them though is that the Alienware website became more streamlined and user-friendly (almost similar to Dell's) while Dell gained Alienware's expertise to build better XPS machines. :)
PPS: HP bought out VoodooPC a few months after the Dell-A'ware buy happened. :)

Firstly, Alienware books aren't sold in India. Secondly a good config will cost you 1L+.

For 75k INR the best you can get is the XPS 1530/1330. Try a Macbook Pro with a 8600GT which will be ~$1800 in the US.

Alienware M15X is a light weight powerful laptop with it 15.4" and 8800GTX.But the quality is terrible and everyone who bought it has either returned or sold it.

Read through Alienware forums in notebookreview.com

:P

with laptops, its teh other way around dude. highly specialised things. nothin such as an assembled lappie :) if u do find something like it it ll b a low cost thing cobbled together from old parts etc...or something unbranded imported from china etc.

Branded is THE only option for laptops :)

Do as the Anish says. :D

XPS 1530 with a 8600GT - portable, thin and stylish with a decent sized screen. Or the Macbook Pro 15" - similar config but with the Mac OSX.

And btw, when it comes to laptops...the chassis, screen, ergonomics and design are more important than the hardware, way way more important.

OMG !! a Aleinware representative on TE ? hahaha ..

@OP get a XPS or the Macbook with 8600gt as Anish suggested.

PS: AFAIK most games do not work on OS X ,so one will have to install a Windows OS along with the OS X on a macbook to actually use the 8600GT?:S

someone shed some light please.

Only a few of the popular games titles are available for playing in Mac OS X natively. The current Macbook Pros offer hybrid graphic cards: 9400M for lesser battery charge consumption or 9600M GT(256 or 512MB; by models) for graphic performance modes.

For playing Windows games, you'll most probably need to install Windows as a dual boot along with Mac OS and use the drivers provided by Apple itself. Ready to game!

Even 8600GT 512MB in my previous gen Macbook Pro never left me unhappy. So tempting to upgrade to newer Macbook Pro, but logically I'm satisfied so far. :@ :P
