Are iPhone upgrades worth it anymore

Have an iPhone (12 pro). Tempting to buy 16 pro cuz the battery health has dropped to 76%. But now, I am thinking of just replacing the battery and going for Ultra 2, cuz I don't think the phone will die anytime sooner.
You're not missing out on anything special. IPhones haven't changed much since X.

I think iPhone upgrades, in general, are not worth it unless you're switching from an old mid-range Android and want to move to an iPhone. Even then, I would preferably recommend just the Pro version or the base version too.

but mid range androids are getting good upgrades with good camera and processor.
Regardless of the processor, it'll still lag due to poor optimisation on software level. Permanent disability doesn't just go away. Lol.

But yes, the mid range Android segment makes the most sense compared to the flagship segment as the performance difference is miniscule.

Btw, are you guys sure that iphones with around 85% battery level won't be needing a battery replacement, say within a year or so? Was looking to purchase one used but none available on this platform.

Camera has. Thats probably the only reason I would upgrade as I take a lot of pics (and keep them dumped with me and rarely look at them again).

That is what. We take tons of pics, especially when we go for vacation etc but then never look at them. If the pics reside in phone, we may even see when we are bored but if it is backed up in HDD, forget about ever looking at them.
I remember burning DVDs with pics named "Disney Trip", "Vegas Trip", "Friends" etc but never look at them and I guess never will.

My kids will sometimes just look at pics of the vacation we took last (only if pics are in phone) but that's it. It will fade away as soon as we take next vacation.

Same with videos, took so many videos which we feel are good when taken but then we think...why we took it and delete it.

True. Most likely, the pictures or videos taken during any trip might be posted on social media that same day. On another note, the 'Memories' feature on both iOS and Android is really good (Nostalgia hits when those pops up)

I keep them on icloud storage and we actually do look at them occasionally when the memory resurfaces.

the upgrade is not worth because these are already at an exceptional level of hardware and software integration. I had 12 mini with 74% battery health and other than plugging charger for 15-20 minutes in afternoon and fully charging it overnight it was perfectly fine. Most people upgrade for the sake of new devices but don't think if they even need it and blame company when reality hits. Most high end chips from last 3-4 year old phones working flawlessly in ios and android so you should think before spending it's your duty, the company will advertise it's their duty.

You should upgrade. Unless you’re one of those mini fanboy. My normal 14 feels small.
Also The performance is alright for 14, but sustained performance is not good at all. Apple needs to upgrade their cooling system. Also as you said battery is bad, I am on 86% still need to charge twice. If I use cam then it drains heavily.

its apples decision of 80% battery health to give replacement under warranty but people don't understand that, they think it's a necessity to change. With a second plugging to charger for 20 minutes will definitely give you better backup without any cost. Don't fall for the 80% delusion of battery change unless you can't stand the minor performance limitations because of battery health. As I have previously said it's your money and your duty to think.

I upgraded to 15 in the sale period but it was due to some other facts.
