Are PC Gamers Too Good for Console Gamers?

With gaming technologies so similar these days, as games use the same engine technologies, it would seem like a logical step for different platforms to be able to play with each other online. After all, Macs and PCs have been harmoniously getting along with each other online. So what about consoles?

Microsoft controls what goes on its Xbox 360 platform, so through its Games for Windows initiative, one would assume that Microsoft at one point must have contemplated getting its console gamers online with PC gamers. According to VoodooPC founder and HP CTO Rahul Sood, Microsoft tested it and then canned it.

Why? Because console gamers were no match for PC gamers.

"There was a project that got killed at Microsoft. This project was designed to allow console gamers and PC gamers to interact and battle over a connected environment," Sood wrote on his personal blog. "I've heard from reliable sources that during the development they brought together the best console gamers to play mediocre PC gamers at the same game... and guess what happened? They pitted console gamers with their 'console' controller, against PC gamers with their keyboard and mouse."

The results shouldn't be too surprising.

"The console players got destroyed every time," Sood added. "So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative. Is this why the project was killed Who knows, but I'd love to hear from anyone involved --- what happened?"

Sood then continued expressing his belief that cross platform play with the Xbox 360 would promoted the PC as a superior gaming platform, with a little nudge to developers to consider looking at making games for HP's newly acquired Palm webOS.

This must be true because, the mouse + keyboard combo trumps the controller any day for fps's, there is absolutely no denying that. I am sure that it would be very close in arcade games such as racing etc. But, I think the real reason people buy consoles is for casual gaming, so its wrong to compare the platforms.

There have been a couple of XBox/PC multi-player cross compatible games in the past. Shadowrun was one of them. Never played it so cant really comment...

I think there were a few attempts at this outside of MS as well and its never a good idea. Game pads are not as good as Keyboard/Mouse for many games and even with modded game pads with rapid fire/turbo modes, a good console gamer would get his ass handed to him on a platter by an avg PC gamer. In fact in a lot of console versions of games, the gamers are given a handicap bonus in terms of hit detection as these versions are designed to be far more forgiving to compensate for the lack of precision of the analog stick compared to a mouse.

Well even an 8 year old on a PC can beat a 8 year experienced XBOX player with a Keyboard and a mouse, being a PC gamer i should say we should get cocky, its like a normal man reading a paragraph in 10 secs and a blind man reading (brailled page :3 ) the same in 1 minute.

Actually ps3 and 360 should have cross-platform multiplayer online games, most games are too similar not to allow this.

Wait isnt PORTAL 2 bieng launched in MP/CO-OP as a common platform for PC/PS3 ?

HAHA !

Time to pwn some PS3 b**ches !!

Nah cross platform games cant be done, besides u are suggesting Microsoft and Sony come together in a single title :p

P.S. console gamers can be pwned by pc gamers any day hands down !!

Besides i think most of the console gamers are immature, n00bish players as seen on their behavior (the amnt of sh*t these guys talk over the mic is just insane) and game style online.

but last time i heard that person who own virgin airline is developing cross platform software .

I bought a gamepad for my PC so I can play games on my TV panel while sitting on couch... however, the only games I find myself playing on couch are racing games. When it comes to FPS and fragging, I can't let go my keyboard and mouse. No gamepad in the world can even dream of coming near good ol' keyboard/mouse team.

As someone suggested, they should just have some sort of modified keyboard and mouse for consoles. Just have 10 buttons on a keypad and a mouse. How is this any more complicated than a 10 button console controller, is something I fail to understand.

Ah!! No wonder I beat Gears of War (the only game i played on Xbox) on the most difficult setting without much effort.I was playing Halo 2 on Legendary Mode on PC and damn I couldn't even get pass the first level. Normally I dont give up. (I persisted 3 days to beat the Krogan Battlemaster in Mass Effect). I was very disappointed when ppl say they have played Halo on all difficulty levels. Now I guess why.

Has anyone tried Halo 2 Legendary Mode on PC ?

Hahhaa.. talk about timing..

Rahul Sood has a post just up on his blog where he says that MS killed PC/x360 compatibility because PC gamers were too good for their console counterparts

^Rahul who? :\

LOL peeps who say that it's hard to play FPS games using a controller should see how pro-gamers pwn noobs on KZ2. I got my rear handed over when I played this title sometime last year with some guys. :\

All it takes is time and practise. :P

^ Simply pwning noobs is hardly enough :P. You should dig up some Q3 CPMA frag videos to see just what kinda moves PC gamers can pull off with a mouse & keyboard. I swear, their feet never even touch the ground, they're literally navigating the map by bouncing themselves off from one wall to another using the rocket launcher.

But really, it depends on the game. This article only holds true for FPS games. If we consider sports or racing games, it is the keyboard & mouse users who will be beaten everytime.

If the gamer is pro no matter what kinna hardware he/she(yep chicks are pros too nowadays :( ) can pawn and pawn good. Useless blogger. Totally Narrow minded .

take a look, its not that good but fair enough:-
