I usually download necessary stuffs like regular updates and new sware releases. But when there is really nothing to do I fell wtf m doing with this net....@#@.. I then research and dig for something new and download it. And to be honest, in my 11yrs of net usage I have just downloaded less than 15 movies...;) Rest its all sware/ tool/ webpages, pdfs etc. kind of stuff.

Thank you @6pack for saying it loud and clear, without any fear ...... Yes we all are addicts in some ways or the other, permit me to add my own to your 22 Sacred Commandments :hail:

23 - You look like a Shell shocked zombie, when, for the 576th time your Wifey SCREAMS, "Why is the MTNL Bill so HIGH" (This when you have told her 575 times that nothing in the bill's changed for the past 5 years - except the damm taxes).
24 - You do not allow anyone else at home to add their stuff to your own download queue, 'coz they download crap things!
25 - You like to Brag about having crossed over a 1000 films ...... and now you are heading at the 5000 mark.
26 - You think your wife's collection of movies is the bollywood masala type, whereas yours is cinema paradiso or the cerebral type.
27 - You collect documentaries of the most esoteric topics.
27 - You have painstakingly catalogued each and every film in excelsheet (with data from IMDB)
28 - You curse yourself when you discover have two more copies of the just downloaded file.
29 - You brag about ONLY downloading 1080p stuff in mkv and never-mind if each of them are over 10GB in size.
30 - You wonder why your HDD get's full so fast.
31 - You always tell yourself, you would sit one day and do some "house-keeping" and clear off all the old stuff.
32 - You download movies and stuff for your kids, so that one day they may cultivate your same interests for the "movies" (never imagining that they may not even want to cast a second glance at your stuff).
33 - You download like crazy because you fear that soon, one-day, google or your own government may put a stop to all this or come up with some "non-bailable" warrant & get you arrested.
34 - You curse your ISP and the Government and just wonder how folks in other countries get speeds of 10-100MBps.
35 - and many more reasons ........

All this from a confirmed addict whose broadband usage is 220 -260GB a month :yahoo:

Ameen

excel sheet? there are some freely available software to do that. I've tried point 31 once. After staring at hdd's full of stuff and seeing old stuff, i just decided leaving them alone would be easy than bother thinking which one to delete and which one to keep. I had plans to segregate the download on diff hdd's according to their types but the price of hdd's shot up like gold and i shelved that idea. should have got 3-4x 2Tb hdd when they were selling for 3.9k here on TE itself. missed that opportunity.
all your points are somehow quite similar to the way i think too. :P

Airtel forgot to turn on download metering after moving to the unlimited 4 mbps/30GB FUP plan. And damn, I have run out of things to download after a well known file sharing website was shot down recently

I remember, when I was in college, 2nd year, I got my first unlimited internet connection - 128kbps from Alliance. After getting the connection, my system ran straight 7-8 days to download the complete Tom & Jerry collection (6-7GB). Almost every night I used to put my machine on for some youtube videos / movies. Then came the BSNL 500C plan. I kept scheduler for auto on and shutdown of my machine everyday between 2-8. Now that I have a good 10Mbps connection with UL upload, I only download whenever I need something. Although the utorrent keep running for seeding. :)

Graduation days gone by with a hope that when i would stay in a big city i would get a Unlimited download plan where i do not have to schedule the downloads to start at 2.02 am and then shut down PC by 7.58am. Here i am in those so called big city and rendering for a truly unlimited plan with at least 2mbps. Damn it, my area is not covered by BSNL, ACT is giving me false hopes of coming to my area very soon in the near future. Morons like Tikona, Failtel are sending me SMS and emails to opt for their shitty unlimited plans. Reliance was present earlier but these damn BBMP guys have dug up my area and reliance is not interested in repairing it unless those guys are done with their digging.

I was so addicted to downloading during my engineering days, and had plenty of hopes for my so called big city plans. These days i keep wi-fi ON my cell and latch on to a torrent wherever i find a open wi-fi connection, be it Gym,restaurant :(

Wish i could go back to my graduation days. :(

And you say i am addicted to downloading, damn it :@

I believe addiction for downloading depends on what service plans you have. I have 10 GB/month FUP plan and it restrains me from downloading unnecessary stuffs, if i had have unlimited plan that would have provoked me to download stuffs incl. prons etc. Having a limited plan prevents me from getting addicted to downloading.

Gone are the days when I had a 100Mbps connection at home and office. Plug in to the router on LAN, start downloading at 30GB an hour :D

Oh well, have to be happy with a 24Mbps connection at office now :(

4,5,6,12,15,17,19,20,21 for me.

I'm outside India right now, but brought with me over 7TB of hard disks :|

For peace of mind I suggest that you stay away from Tikona, there will be a catch in the plan. A useless FUP cap on top of it and thanks to their 'advanced 4G technologies' hopeless signal attenuation loss [which will be deliberately increased after a certain amount of data has been downloaded].

So take it from me, a ex-Tikona user that no matter how tempting the plan looks, KEEP DISTANCE.

Ok mate so which bsnl plan should I get for myself,

Am I the only one who was cured of this addiction thanks to implementation of FUP?

I felt that downloading stuff is the birthright of anyone who has subscribed to an UL connection. If something was not being downloaded I just felt wrong. Internet would stopping for a few minutes for whatever reason and I would go berserk checking my list of stuff to download calling up the Call Center to fix it ASAP even if it was in the middle of the night, switching ISPs over this issue. When I ran out of my list would call up friends to get stuff from their list or would google for stuff that would somehow interest me - didn't matter how remotely.

^ That was my state of mind back then.

Thanks to FUP I started reduced the list to stuff that I really wanted and used to wait till the near end of billing cycle and would then start. Soon the entire process of downloading stuff seemed like a chore and not to mention you get the stuff from some addicted friend anyway. I still download stuff occasionally but very rarely.

The bump down from 2 mbps to the so called broadband speed (512 kbps in my case) just seems like a very cruel punishment and to bear that for the number of days after you have crossed that till the end of billing cycle makes it harsher.

P.S.: Stupidest thing I ever did. Thundershowers are going on, I am using a torrent with very few seeds and leechers a dying torrent. I can hear the distortion (some static noice) from my speakers everytime the lightning strikes nearby. I kept the PC ON had to stay on schedule and believing, hoping and praying lightning won't strike my building. Lightning strikes - Motherboard Dead :dead:

I'm so addicted to downloading, specially considering the fact that I got my laptop 4 years back and it was constantly kept with mains on (for downloading). Battery got screwed but never bothered to get a new one as this was my only download rig (and has been the same way till now). I don't even remember when was the last time I shut this baby off (months probably). It even keeps on running if I go out of town for a couple of days !
Using MTNL 3G UL plan.
And yes, I do brag about downloading ONLY 720p/1080p stuff (and end up buying 25-30% of what I download). :bleh:

I stopped downloading about a year back when I got my Kindle.
And when I realised it's not worth killing my browsing experience by having my downloads use all my bandwidth.
And when I found that there were hardly any new movies I wanted to watch.
And when my girlfriend began sulking if I played games too long.
And when Airtel FUP'ed me....come to think of it, I realised there were no movies to watch, that my browsing was slow and my GF was sulking right about the time Airtel began it's FUP nonsense.

Checked all of them except for #19

Download ~ 500 GB / month. Here's a screenshot of my Real Debrid account, 8th day into subscription.

sad to hear that.

Okay, don't want to start a new thread for such a simple query, so I figured this would be the right place to post considering all the download addict we guys are.

Does anyone have any idea when hard drive prices will go back down?

I've ran out of storage space and want to buy a 1TB external hard disk for storage purpose only.

NOoOO :( It's from my college , i cannot download torrents .. why else would i have spent money on file hosts :(

Still , the speed is better, no depending on seeds ,all stuff 10 MB/s :D

All depends on how the duopoly think the market needs to be milked. And how fast the SSD prices crash [further], I do not see this thing getting sorted out anytime before next year, so just hold fast Sire, it is going to be a long wait that is a surety.

I guess then this is the best place to ask this. Have got my hands on a good internet connection for quite cheap an with no FUP.
I have never tried Usenet and am currently on a 1 month plan of Netload. I have virtually no knowledge about Usenet. How is the content availability and how easy is it to find links. Also which file sharing host would one suggest as Netload links though not hard to find are still not as many as Megaupload used to be.
