Are women really bad drivers or is it a myth ?

Its not that Women or Men are worse drivers,
but its due to the typical mentality of the fairer sex that:" I am a girl, no-one would point a finger against me in case of a fender bender", that they normally don't drive responsibly.
Its not that the "Skills" are lesser for them, but the "Responsibility" that the "Society/Onlookers" endow on them are definitely lesser and they get the benefit of doubt.[DOUBLEPOST=1392362785][/DOUBLEPOST]
she wasnt a bad driver, that was just a ruse for her to get to know you better. ;)
she'd heard of the famous being.smart & wanted to know just how smart you were...:p
She "Bumped" him on the day before V Day
@Being.smart you're luckier than the rest of us ;)

@asingh. yeah i understand that.. not trying to be discriminative.. a lot of men drivers are also bad drivers.. its just that, it seems, things like driving dont naturally and intuitively come to women like they do to boys and men.. there are always exceptions.. i've known girls who can ride bikes in a way that will almost make me wet my pants..

its like, women normally have a strong sixth sense.. men dont.. its natures fact. theres nothing discriminatory about it.
boys are naturally in larger percentages more inclined towards technical things, technology and such. most of the boys wont obsess over their dressing, personal looks (exceptions as usual) unlike girls.

take techenclave for example. how many female members do we have on the forum? although almost everyone owns some gadget or the other. even girls have cellphones, laptops, personal cars.. but thats about it. they dont like to sign up on forums, find like minded people to have some communicative outlet to relax.

most of the girls naturally turn to the closest male acquaintance they have, boyfriend, brother, father etc to solve any issues in the technical side of things..

thats all.

I never took your post to be so..! All drivers need time on the wheel to get used to conditions in India. That is all that there is. There is hardly anything technical in driving. I remember explaining to a lady (who had difficulty driving) what actually pressing the clutch does. How is disengages the engine power to the drive chain. After that, the person told me, she could drive much better; keeping the engine<-->drive chain corollary in mind...! It is admirable seeing a lady drive an SUV or off-roader. :)

Frankly I think everyone is a terrible driver in India. Men have just formed it in their minds that what they do is acceptable if not causing an accident. I mean how many of us have ever actually driven under the speed limit or not overtaken dangerously. It's just that 99% of the times we are right and have good enough skills to get away with it, but we also cause the worst accidents I have seen and I have seen my fair share of bodies flying through the windshield. I am yet to see a fatal accident or a high speed accident caused by a woman. It is in most cases harmless fender benders and stuff like that.
If a girl is confident and sure of themselves they are pretty good drivers and just like everyone else can be taught and trained. Frankly they have a right to be slow and cautious with the way most men drive.
I have been trying to learn driving sensibly and maturely over the last couple of months. My driving has now been tuned such that I don't cross 60kmph 95% of the time and I am getting terrific average due to that. I do however feel the need to get out of my car and crack open the skull of the person behind me who keeps honking his horn at me when I am driving at 55 in a lane with a speed limit of 60. That is one aspect I need to learn to control - Road Rage.

They do come here now and then, but the micro-aggressions from male members turns them off. And then we have complaints as to why women aren't interested.

most of the girls naturally turn to the closest male acquaintance they have, boyfriend, brother, father etc to solve any issues in the technical side of things..

That's because they are taught to do that since their childhood, by parents, relatives, and the society. I know some girls who are more interested in technical things, but they keep mum about it. And I also know some boys who don't understand technical things much, but still try to fake it because that's what they're expected of.

It's a funny world we live in.

I really don't want to sound like a sexist and my opinion is purely based on anecdotal evidence, but all women drivers I have found encountered fall in either of the categories:
1. Terrible drivers (too fast or too slow, either way dangerous for others)
2. Excellent drivers (as good as you can imagine)

I have never come across a mediocre, if you can call it that, woman driver.

so if a guy bumped you? all guys are bad drivers?

If guy bumps a guy from behind ..... he is probably drunk.

If a guy bumps a girl from behind ..... thats a rape attempt

If a girl bumps a girl from behind ..... she maybe wanted to see her nailpolish color.

If a girl bumps a guy from behind ............................................

Ok, I remember now, one particular, I ride on a bike 60 kms two way daily to office & I was standing at a red signal at dadar, suddenly a car bumped me from behind, I saw it was a women, I told her "kya madam dikhta nahi hai kya" .... she is tellling me "aap ko dekhna chahiya tha na peeche" ..... I wanted to give all the badest words possible but the signal turned green.

Please some throw light on it, from your past experience, are women's are really bad driver or its just a myth. :D

I use to believe it as myth, until yesterday. In around 10.30pm when was cycling alone in straight road, which was almost empty with no vehicle, from no where a girl came in activa and banged my cycle from rear, causing severe scratches on my palm, knee and hand :(.

some people tried to create a scene, but i asked her to move ahead. But after this incident, i am now forced to beleive, women's are really bad drivers

What kind of question is this. Doesn't your mother/sister/daughter/aunt/cousin/(female you know) drive?

I feel sad for you every time you start a new topic :(.

You guys are talking about driving. I had an incident while a woman crossing the road In my Engg,
When i was going on my bike to college. There is a lady standing on the road. She was so still that i thought she might not cross the road. So i was driving my way. But when i neared she ran from one side of the road to the other without seeing the traffic of my lane. And then i fell down. My maxillary bones fractured. Not able to open my mouth to eat for 2-3 months. Only fluids. From then i am taking a little care.

sad to hear such incidents :(

fwict bad driving in a fair amount of instances is men driving recklessly or women being indecisive aka men worry too little and women too much.

lol. And this is what the rest of the world thinks about our driving.

http://jalopnik.com/5926297/the-ten-countries-with-the-worst-drivers/

As for women drivers - If you frequently drive from when you are 18, your driving will improve (after a couple of dings, of course :p ). Due to many social and economic reasons, there has been a large increase in inexperienced drivers on the roads in India over the past two generations. And a larger percentage of the new and inexperienced drivers are women. How many women do you know from your grandparent's generation that drive. How many from your mother's and how many from yours? If any of your friends and/or sisters drive, do they drive as far and for as long as you do? Another generation or two and this bias you see will disappear.

I've been using 2 wheelers - 4 wheelers since 6 years in Mumbai now, I drive >40KMs regularly in the busiest part of traffic that Mumbai has, I can recite numerous instances of road mishaps but there is just 1 golden rule I follow:
Always beware of a GIRL(on the road or behind the wheel) or a DOG ON the road.
The precaution I take is slow down like hell when you see either of the two and give them enough time to make a decision.

A dog on the road? That's true, I hear pitbulls cannot drive.
