Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - Discussion Thread

The next Assassin's Creed game may be a swashbuckling adventure with pirates. A tipster has sent Kotaku marketing material for a game called Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
The poster shows a series-familiar hooded assassin wielding a pistol in one hand and a sword in the other. This character is standing on a ship--with a black flag in the background--and is surrounded by a host of pirates.
If Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is indeed real and takes place--at least in part--on the high seas, it will not be a first for the series. Last year's Assassin's Creed III featured various naval missions where players battled enemy ships.
Earlier this month, Ubisoft confirmed it was developing a new Assassin's Creed game for release during its fiscal 2014 (April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014). According to CEO Yves Guillemot, this game will take place in a new setting and star an all-new hero.

The Other Side of that Supposed Assassin’s Creed IV Poster is a Map:
A poster that's turned up online today, seemingly showing the title and main character of the next Assassin's Creed game, appears to have two sides.

You've seen the front, of course, but here's what a tipster says is the back.

As you could probably guess from the piratical theme, the image would suggest the game is set in the Caribbean, though interestingly this map shows only the Western half, incorporating what's today known as Cuba, the southern tip of Florida and Jamaica.

Ubisoft hasn't formally spoken about the next Assassin's Creed just yet, aside from the fact that it will star a new character and feature a new setting, and also that it will be out next fiscal year.

Ubi should seriously consider giving this series a rest for a while (a la Prince of Persia). The last one was just an okay'ish title and nowhere close to AC II or Brotherhood. Even the last two titles from the POP franchise was a case of hit or miss, barely matching up to Sands of Time or the darker sequel Warrior Within.

Finally Revealed by Ubisoft that the Next title will be Black Flag. More on March 4.
Here's the Cover Art:

PS3 version will include 60mins of extra gameplay content.

P.S.- Protagonist is blonde. :evilgrin39:

I agree, they should take a few years gap and come up with a better story. The gameplay in AC3 was pretty repetitive and the single player gameplay was very short. The setting in America was cool but the story kind of took too many jumps in time and the Desmond ending simply sucked.Btw loved the naval missions. Hope Black Flag has better story and longer gameplay

Well the trainer was nice. But I guess that's what I thought when ACIIIs trailer came out and the hell I know the game turned out to be. I guess most of did. :p

I haven't played AC3, but I guess I can let this series rest in peace now. It's trying to become the next CoD, only difference being that it is adopting history instead of warfare.

The epicness and mystery from the trailers of the past games is missing in this trailer. In comparison to the first teaser of AC1, AC2 and even AC3, this trailer is mediocre. The CGI trailers of Brotherhood and Revelations were also epic than this. I am disappointed by the trailer. I hope the game will be good as we cannot judge the game based on just its trailer.

i don't understand how people could even link this franchise to 'milking'(we have had enough of these, haven't we?)...why?because it's a story driven franchise, that's why!!,each new game continues the AC saga, and unlike me ,you may not love it,but that's no reason to indulge in insulting the devs behind this wonderful series. The money invested in these games speaks through the amount of content, the sheer scope and the quality present in these games, and nobody can deny that!,and I for one want a new AC game every year, aren't 365 days enough to get over whatever fatigue these 'whiners' are suffering from? Moreover,if Ubi releases them 2 years apart, then i am sure these nay-sayers will come up again saying,"OH!,it has been too long since the last AC launched,we don't remember the plot, screw this".seriously pathetic. If you don't like it,then vote with your wallet.

They are absolutely milking the franchise. From AC2 to AC3 through Brotherhood and Revelations, the storytelling has gone progressively worse. The characters feel hollow, and the plots and subplots feel hastily written. Most people thought it would be a trilogy, with three story arcs of Altair, Ezio and Desmond. Then they built a trilogy within a trilogy with Ac2 and it's sequels. A pirate setting seems to be incredibly cliched and lazy.

It's now like those mega soap operas, running each day of the week, and needing filler episodes because there is no story to tell.

then most people thought wrong, and to clarify one thing:development on AC3 started in 2009,so that should tell you that the whole story had always been ready, nothing is being 'created' mid-development,(something Black Flag also conveys, because it was also in development simultaneously at some point, and that can't happen unless everything has been set in stone already),also how do you judge storytelling?By comparing it with other games, right?Such comparisons should clearly show that AC games feature good storytelling..., and so i am seriously baffled seeing you plainly claim that the storytelling has gone progressively worse...who are you exactly? The hard work put in by the devs is so apparent in AC3 that it is just a massive slap in their face when some one claims something as ludicrous as you do,have you seen how seamlessly they have integrated their own plot with the events of the american revolution?have you played it and felt the massive scope...,nobody is denying that AC certainly has issues, but sometimes i feel that people compare games to some super ideal game that exists only in their imagination and then point out flaws!,the sheer talent that is required to put out something like AC consistently cannot be so simply dismissed,(if you don't want to play one of the best premier quality AAA games each year, fine ,don't)[DOUBLEPOST=1364988828][/DOUBLEPOST]COD is definitely being milked...i never brought up COD,if you are talking to me dinjo.Actually as long as people enjoy the various iterations of COD,i won't even say it is being 'milked',as then it becomes a mutually beneficial partnership btw the dev and the gamer audience.just my 2 cents.[DOUBLEPOST=1364989972][/DOUBLEPOST]
Edward Kenway? So, we've got an AC3 spin-off on our hands. Happy milking, Ubisoft!
Hmm...do you know what a spin-off is?it's a new character,a new assassin,in a new time period,in a new setting....(with some templar shit also included)..you are seriously deluded.Brotherhood and revelations were spin-offs,not this.

That post can do with some formatting. It's a pain to read it otherwise.

who are you exactly?

you are seriously deluded..

With that being said, I don't suppose you can slap your point on someone else either. Different people have different views - learn to respect them and move forth.
