Hi,

Since, my 5 year old Toshiba laptop became unusable now, I am trying to assemble a low cost (around 20K to 23K) PC myself (for the first time) and would need some help in selecting the configuration.

My intended usage is for programming and other day-to-day activities. I would like to dual boot it with Windows (7 or above) and fedora. Will use VMs on and off.

I have selected the following configurations for my PC (I would buy from flipkart since I have some gift coupons):

1. Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H Motherboard (which has integrated graphics card) (http://www.flipkart.com/gigabyte-ga...no=p_5&query=motherboard&otracker=from-search)

2. Intel i3 3220 (http://www.flipkart.com/intel-i3-32...srno=p_5&query=processor&otracker=from-search)

3. A Deepcool Gammaxx PSU (http://www.flipkart.com/cooler-mast...o=p_2&query=heat+sink+pc&otracker=from-search)

4. I already have a 320GB SATA HDD (http://www.cnet.com/products/toshiba-mq01abd032-hard-drive-320-gb-sata-300-series/) and 3 GB of DDR3 RAM.

5. An HDMI monitor (brand not yet confirmed). Any suggestions?

6. MicroATX cabinet (Brand not yet confirmed). Any suggestions?

Following are my questions.

1. Will these components fit together perfectly? Or do I have to consider any compatibility issue?
2. Does this configuration looks good or should I consider any other choice?
3. Will I be able to use the HDD with the motherboard or should I have a covering case and use it as USB HDD?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance.

1. Yes they will be fine but why are you going for an Ivybridge (LGA1155)? Its an old model.
2. You could go for a Haswell (LGA1150) based system. We now have Skylake though.
3. That's a laptop harddisk. You can get a new desktop internal 1TB or something for more storage and get a cover for the other laptop harddisk and use it as an external drive.
4. There are many monitors with HDMI. Brand preference is a personal thing. Choose from a tier-1 brand in your budget.
5. For PSU you can go with a Seasonic Eco model.
6. Choosing a good micro-ITX cabinet will be tricky in your budget.

Thanks a lot for the reply!

I didn't knew that ivybridge is an older model. Probably I will have a look at Haswell based configuration.

I already have an external 1TB harddisk. That's why I just thought of reusing my harddisk. Won't I be able to use it with my desktop as an internal harddisk (sorry if the question sounds so naive) without an external cover?

Please increase your Budget my friend. It makes no sense in using a 2012 technology in 2016.
So raise your budget if you can, so that you can build the best pc with latest technology...

to be honest,ur config makes low sense considering current standards,u r building a pc that is outdated from start.lol
