AstroTalk - a fraud?

Real talent but may be don't have Business Skills.
Also note that Real/Good Astrologer will never speak to please you and never force you to get things done from him
That pandit ji was trying to sell me stone and all too.
Look genuine or not paisa sab ko chahiya.
Maybe even the stone he was trying to sell me might have helped and was genuine attempt but I didn't care and I made this clear to him.
Infact felt little rude too but kya kare...for me it was not serious. Just time pass at that time.

There are no genuine astrologers; if there were any, they would be the richest people on this planet.

Arey bhai.....until and unless you don't experience it ...You will keep saying this. I have experienced which is why I feel there are some genuine ones too .

Ofcourse you can continue believing that.

I get what you mean. Some say things, know things that they have no business knowing. First meet, you are talking about a troubled friend/family and they just know it. Right ?
This is a well studied phenomenon and there are several reasons and explanations.

First:
This guy was a astrologer, wrote a book called 'mars effect'. He also did the following experiment https://www.macmillan.pl/images/materials/1464157670_Effective_Reading_3.pdf
In 1979 a French researcher, Michel Gauquelin, took out anadvertisement in a Paris newspaper offering free personalizedhoroscopes. To the first 150 people who responded, he sent outreadings giving details of their personality, and then he asked them toreport back on the accuracy of the information. An amazing 94 percent replied that their readings were very accurate. There were twothings the researcher did not mention to the respondents, however.Firstly, all 150 people, regardless of their actual birthdates, receivedthe same reading, word for word. Secondly, the reading that theyreceived was one prepared with the time and date of birth of a Frenchdoctor called Michel Petiot, who was convicted of multiple murders during the Second World War

This one is fascinating ! Ex-astrologer tells it all ! https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/nov/06/i-was-an-astrologer-how-it-works-psychics

Half the time, though, I couldn’t get a word in. It turned out what most people want is the chance to unload for an hour.

The range of problems faced by people who can afford $50 for fortune telling turned out to be limited: troubles with romance, troubles at work, trouble mustering the courage for a much-needed change. I heard these stories so often I could often guess what the problem was the moment someone walked in. Heartbroken young men, for example, talk about it to psychics, because it’s less risky than telling their friends. Sometimes I’d mischievously say, “Let her go. She’s not worth it,” as soon as one arrived. Once I heard, “Oh my God, oh my GOD!” as an amazed guy fell backwards down the stairs.

What broke the spell for me was, oddly, people swearing by my gift. Some repeat customers claimed I’d made very specific predictions, of a kind I never made. It dawned on me that my readings were a co-creation – I would weave a story and, later, the customer’s memory would add new elements. I got to test this theory after a friend raved about a reading she’d had, full of astonishingly accurate predictions. She had a tape of the session, so I asked her to play it.

The clairvoyant had said none of the things my friend claimed. Not a single one. My friend’s imagination had done all the work.

I was just going to comment along similar lines. There's always an explanation for it.

It branches well into the theory of coincidence. More "genuine" astrologers fall along the lines of the above-given theories/facts.

Moon have effect on High tide & low tide and it also have effect on Human Body & Mind.

There is deep relation between Full Moon and it's effects on Human Mind/Mental Health and that's why people who lose temper very fast (very very short tempered) are suggest to wear Moon Stone and that too in SILVER (moon & silver both have clam effect on human body & mind).
It's a placebo effect. Just like buying something in your favourite colour brings you more joy than a colour you don't like. A bright red Ferrari will look more sporty even if it is parked next to an identical model in black.

In Ayurveda there is lot of Good & Effective medicines that are prepared & keep under FULL MOON only to dry. (Chandraprabha Vati is one of them)
Have you or anyone else personally tested to confirm if the preparation is less effective when done on a New Moon day?

Also, here's a kicker: full moon/new moon (monthly cycle) is irrelevant for high/low tides, and consequently as you claim, to you mental state/health. Depending on the location, there are 2 high tides + 2 low tides per day.
So if your claim was true, people should be freaking out on a 6 hour cycle, not a monthly cycle. More importantly, it should be affecting everyone, not just a few individuals.

Perhaps you're confusing it with werewolves...

I do believe astrology is works provided you met with Real Astrologer.
And since the richest people in the world are not astrologers, you just proved it doesn't work - if it did, they would have predicted stocks, bitcoin, NFTs etc and made a lot of money. Or may be it was because the PC they used didn't have RGB and colour therapy failed them

Just like to replace your relative's organ you prefer BEST and Knowledgeable Doctor and that Doctor did his/her work 100% accurate and save your relative life.
  • But was the surgery performed on new moon/full moon/high tide/low tide?
  • What colour scrubs were the staff wearing??
  • What colour were the walls painted???
  • During surgery all ornaments are removed from the patient's body. What if removing the ring/stones reduced their lifetime drastically OMG!!
  • And when was the surgeon born? Because clearly if he didn't have a compatible planetary positioning with the patient, there would be zero percent chance of success right? I mean couple with incompatible horoscopes can't even stay married for long, surely there's no hope for a life threatening medical condition
-----

There's belief, and then there's the truth.
One works only for those who believe, and the other works whether you believe it or not.
If a venomous snake bites you, you're gonna die regardless of what stone you're wearing, or if you believe it was a friendly, non-venomous snake.
But if your belief system has the indirect effect of providing you a calm demeanour to allow you to think rationally, you might come up with an effective solution yourself.
Fake confidence is better than no confidence.

Okay. Let me share some more genuine examples.

My cousin when around 4-5 years old had been predicted will move abroad and keep travelling to many countries for work and exactly that is happening. This is when only 5 years old.

And to add further there were 3 family members more whose Janam kundli was sent to the same pandit ji at same time but only this cousin's future was mentioned as going abroad and settling down.

I personally have never been to any pandit after that time pass experience and that was almost 5 years ago.
Because I don't care much....joh hona hoga..hoga wala attitude hai.

However, I have found some belief in this from personal experiences over years and will not just dismiss every pandit/astrologer as scammer too.

They make random predictions, some accurate, some not. Common ones include age-related milestones like graduation or marriage.

In our area, a pandit would predict to bike owners that they might have an accident this year and advised them to wear a protective mala. It's not surprising that with so many bike riders, at least one would have an accident. Those who had accidents credited the pandit's prediction and the mala for saving their lives. Those who didn't have accidents believed the mala prevented them. This made everyone a fan of the pandit!

Why aren't they the richest person on Earth? Even with just a 30% accuracy, they could become so through option trading. Instead of promoting pseudo-science on a tech and science forum, ask yourself this. Your anecdotal experience holds little value; otherwise, fewer people would struggle with basic livelihood, mental health, and other challenges, leading to a better quality of life for everyone by visiting these astrologers.

It's called inception. Your pandit planted the idea of sending that particular child abroad into the minds of your uncle/aunt. They chose to believe it and act accordingly. The money/visa/application didn't magically fall from the sky into your cousin's lap to move out. Your uncle/aunt worked to make it happen.

Here's another way to put it: if someone takes out an ad in TV & newspaper attacking your integrity, will people around you not believe it and treat you with contempt? It doesn't matter if it's true or not, the harm is done. That's the reason defamation is grounds for suing.

Even a broken clock shows the correct time twice a day. If you make enough predictions, some of them will become true-that's just statistics. And regardless of the outcome of his predictions, he's making money everytime he sells an amulet/stone/ring. That's his business model.

If they could predict with 100% accuracy, why don't they tell you to pay after the predictions come true. Did they predict that you are untrustworthy and skip payment?
And why don't they maintain a public record of all their predictions that anyone can verify?

Your cousin might have gone abroad, but there are hundreds of other predictions that never came true, will he answer for those and return the money he took?
No, he cleverly blames that their stars weren't favourable, that they should do x or y to be successful.
And when all else fails, there's the biggest excuse of them all: you are paying for your past life's sins.

I have found Pandit successfully predicting things about me without a single word I told them about me. Except for DOB and time etc and this is on the road wala pandit ji. Long story short It was near a bus stand and I wanted to kill time before catching my next bus for my destination.
He successfully predicted about my relation duration, Me going abroad very soon and quite a few personal things accurately.
But some of his future predictions fall flat too.
And I have even seen a friends prediction coming true, most of it.

My cousin was predicted that he would fall very sick and almost loose his life but his family will bring him back and this is exactly had happen. He needed organ donation and his family turned the world upside down to get organ donar.
These guys are extreme observant of you, your expressions, things you are wearing and the way you talk. They deduce things from there.

These are nothing but our Desi Sherlock Holmes. There's a science / practice to it.

And, most of the things they blurt out are generic ramblings.

They aren't scammers the same way Narayan Murthy wants you to work 70 hours/week for the benefit of the country, and not gain anything financially.

As I had previously mentioned, they work on the theory of coincidence. A person's belief system only makes it easier, so when they do turn out to be right (again, not because of any sort of divinity, but due to sheer coincidence and causality), they are revered. They have the experience of knowing what most people (especially Indians) approach them for - mostly going abroad, wealth, job (mera beta engineer banega?), and marriage. It then becomes a game of guessing, and hitting the right notes based on gauging a person's demeanor (this is especially true with the more experienced pandits/babas).

There is a direct correlation at play here, as well. For example, if a baba predicts you are going to go abroad in 2 years, your belief system will make you happy. Without realizing it, your confidence and hope shoot through the roof, and you start putting in more effort towards actually making that a reality. After you go abroad (due to your own effort, and not because of what the baba said), all the credit goes to the baba, instead of your hard work. On the flip side, if the baba said you have no chance of going abroad, you will get de-motivated and put in zero effort, you end up not going abroad. End result? The baba was right. He must be divine.

The correct term is "correctly guessing", and not "predicting".

Astrology is only fun when you don't take it seriously, like reading what your day is going to look like in the horoscope section of a newspaper, for a laugh.

They are not all scammers. In fact most aren't . Many are more like therapists. Where people come to seek out validation, or need someone to talk to. They rant and rant, and make it easy for the astrologer. Then there is a case of probability. Astrologer gets right half the things, and people simply ignore the wrong predictions.
Then people realllly want to believe. My mum heard this prediction before the first wave "covid will be over in 3 months !" Even after the 2nd wave, 2 years later, she maintained how that prediction was accurate.
Then there is the way they talk,
"phoren jaane ka chance ban sakta hai" . Everyone has a chance these days specially from upper class.
"paise ka lobh hai" . Kisko nahi hai
"samay bura chal raha hai, but only for next 1 year" . Depression shows on our faces. They give hope that all will be well enough

Astrology is base on Ganana i.e. lots of Maths, Critical Calculations, any idiot can set up business with basic or normal or average maths calculations and average (idiot) people meet them for love marriage, court, health, videsh, money etc., Real astrologer never predict how you will get money but can show you way to reach the goal.

If you go to doctor with erectile dysfunction and he prescribed you viagra without considering other factors & you got heart attack after consuming it, than is that that Doctor is fake... no.. but he don't have time or don't want to investigate and just provide temporary solutions, but, if you visit good doctor than he will ask you every thing and than prescribed medicine accordingly and may be some time you even don't need medicine for some short term/temporary issues.. but just Good Words & Hope ... ab ye mat bolna Doctor ko to kuch pata he nahi hai, sab kuch mujse puchta hai aur uske baad dawai deta hai .... (Joke of the day)

Real astrologer is one who predict/write Janam Patri just after Birth Of Child or who can predict with just Date/Time/Place of Birth.

Also note that at time, if 100,000 child born and if all of their Ganana (Calculations) came same, then the prediction either 100% suite to one only or may get divided over 100,000

There are Vedic Schools, who teach astrology etc., now who never know what is Vedas etc. will never agree with it, that's fine, if you don't know anything or just fail to visit right person than it's whose problem?

Just like if I visit Road Side /Fake Doctor and keep blaming all Doctors, it's not right. If you visit certain areas/villages in India, there are 99% Bogus Doctors and if you fade up with one and approach others (but fake doctor) than will you get good treatments and than you label that all Doctors in every corner is nothing but .... is it right?

Even a best/expert Doctor some time unable to save or treat 10% in his life time, but it doesn't mean, he failed

I also didn't read/study Vedas etc. but in my community my elders have learn and thus they believe it, may be you are from different communities and don't know about it than it's not issue, but is issue when you don't know and just give Tark/Ku-Tark.

One more thing.

1. Neptune was discovered 200 years ago. uranus 300, pluto 100 years ago.
2. Eris a planet bigger than pluto is simply not considered
3. Besides pluto and eris there are thousands more bodies in that region that astrologers don't consider. Similarly moons of other planets. Jupiter has over a hundred
4. Gravity isn't equal on earth: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity_of_Earth
5. If planets affect us, then so would large mountains and oceans. Their effect would be higher than neptune, since they are so much closer

Even if we assume that there is logic, caclulations, maths involved in astrology. The equations aren't complete. No matter how good the doctor is, he cannot do an accurate diagnosis blindfolded

image-asset[1].png

Edit: More

2 moons bigger than mercury, 4 more bigger than pluto are simply ignored ! how can any calculation be valid ?

lol, couple of months back my mother started praising a pandit ji a lot, The pandit ji was from Delhi, and my previous landlord and one of mother's friend actually used to invite him to stay at their house and do prayers and all for 4-5 days the cost of these days were more than 50k with all the stuff they had to buy and pandit ji's fees.
Now it comes to me, none of my business ideas worked and i was in some debt so mother started to seek advices from pandit ji.
Couple of main things about the situation and me -
1. I had lent an old colleague 2 Lac 2 years back which i took from my uncle on interest which he haven't paid back till now, not even interest.
2. I was doing a part time accountant job so i was always back home before 2PM.
3. I used to spend a lot of time playing games like COD and GTA
4. I also spent a lot of time just browsing online coz had too much free time.

Note- My mother has already told all these things to Pandit ji

Pandit ji asked my mother to give them the number of the person whom i lent the money, saying once he hears his voice he will make him pay the amount asap.
Mother asked me for the number i humbly declined. Once she called on speaker while standing next to pandit ji and asked for a conference call and i declined again saying this is my issue i will handle it myself.

After this Pandit ji declared that i haven't given any money to anyone , I have lost all that money in gambling online
why else would i refuse to let anyone talk to the guy ( whom i gave the money to)
Basically I'm a person who lost money and can't be trusted for money.

After a couple of days my mother went to pandit ji again to ask about my sister's future if she will be able to go abroad.
My mom called and asked me and my sis to come meet them , I was already pissed at the previous incident to i asked my cousin to take sis and meet them.

Later that evening my cousin and sis told me that pandit ji said today that you don't even have a job,
You are financially dead ( don't know the right term ), You just go out of the house to do some awaragardi and then come back after 3-4 hours to show everyone that you are working,
Even the EMI's you have been paying either comes from more loan or you are doing some bad things gangster type shit.
I was furious. But didn't do anything .

Even my cousin told them how could i be lying about my job when for 4 months he used to drop me at the office and sometimes he used to come inside and wait for me in there.
But all hail the all knowing pandit ji , Neighbor aunty who was hosting Pandit ji at the time said you should ask someone to follow him a couple of days and see what he does.
My cousin said on the spot if you are so worried about Nikhil why don't you go and follow him yourself for couple of days .

After that a lot happened , some arguments at home , but mother kept defending pandit ji
Till some weeks later pandit ji said my sister won't be able to go abroad. ( well she has been in UK for past 4 Months ).

After that mother doesn't talk too much about pandit ji at home but still sometimes,
when I tease her about past incidents she defends him saying , then why does everything he says to previous landlord and aunty ji comes true ( most of it does by pure coincidence )
Took a lot of efforts too , to convince her he might be a god to everyone but in this house or about me every word he says is always gonna be a lie.
Nice story. Usually it's the parents that worry their children are mixing with the wrong people and falling under their spell. Yours is the opposite :D
What I have learnt from my personal experience is that you should never try to stop stupidity or try to logically reason with people. It doesn't work, and it ruins your relation with these people. Some people are just wired to believe in stuff without evidence. You should try to make money out of this (such as by starting an app lol) and enjoy your life.
This is the difference between faith and knowledge.

What people forget is if people didn't have faith they were on the right path there would be no knowledge :)

1) Why did the apple fall. Why do you care. Isn't it a stupid question to ask and a waste of time to figure out?

Oh you think it will help to understand heavenly bodies better. All that will come from learning about the apple is it :bored:

2) Another example of that era, was alchemy (borrowed from Arabic) whose roots are a millenia older. The belief there is some magic formula to turn metal into gold. Medieval get rich quick scheme. That's how modern chemistry got started.

3) And while we're on the topic of 'Astrotalk' this last one is out there where the buses don't run :troll:

Oh you want to be a 'rocket scientist'. Is that a religious term?

'Aerospace engineering' Yes....and you want to go to the moon? :wacky:

Everybody knows the names of the famous people but more interesting is to see their lives, beliefs and motivations. And you will find they were broad minded to a fault and into crazy shit. But smart enough to recognise when something interesting happened and then pursued with determination. These are people that move civilisation forward with their discoveries and inventions.
Star positions have also changed since the Zodiac sign was discovered, so that argument also doesn't hold much (logical) merit.
I knew this Japanese girl a while back and the weird thing about her when she met new people was to ask them their zodiac sign. She was into Horroscopes

She would then talk about their personality for a few minutes and most of the time get it right as friends would knowingly smile and nod. The birthdays that were on the zodiac boundaries would throw her sometimes. I'd seen her do this with at least twenty random people at least.

Statistically insignificant as a sample size and all anecdotal. You could say she was quite perceptive and a tad over sensitive. Traits that go together with these people. A minor demonstration of a vast subject but she did make me wonder whether at least some of it had value.
Anyway, about astrology, it's up to you whether you want to believe it or not. People want to have hope even if it's false hope and that's a fact. I myself don't believe in all that, but everyone has different opinion and perspective.
Yeah you do. Do you believe your favorite team will win the match. Is that a false hope

No difference with astrology then. This is all about psychology and applies in many areas.
If you trust it works if you don't it won't, as the changes are very very slow and need long patience.
This is one of those weird mind tricks.

Placebo vs nocebo.

A doctor will always try to be positive. Because negative will send you into a downward spiral. And this happens because these days people see the doctor like some god. Like the faith healers of the past.

> That's why I said shady baba as it was just some random stone without any certification.

That is loss, even otherwise there is almost negligible resale value for these stones.
Hope it at least match your style.

As for astrology, consider it as art of coincidence, giving hope, confidence, motivation and also submitting to one's own fate. Most astrologers are fakes though. Good astrologers have deep knowledge about multiple facets of human behavior, social and environmental awareness together with esoteric. Needs lifetime experience which is difficult and rare to come-by.

I mean I have no problem with astrologer if they act as a motivation-er or therapist, but they act as some great being who knows everything and even demotivate ppl to sell goods.
