1004DN is the first Eee to offer an integrated CD/DVD burner
The computer industry is hurting for sure, but one of the few bright spots in the poor economy has been and continues to be netbooks. The netbook category continues to grow as consumers look to the low cost machines for portability and the price.
One of the biggest problems for many that use a netbook is that they lack an optical drive. This is a problem for those who want to use a netbook as their primary computer. ASUS has a plethora of Eee models that cover a wide range of offerings, colors, and uses.
ASUS says that its new 1004DN is the first netbook in the Eee range to offer an integrated Super-Multi optical drive allowing users to read and write to CDs and DVDs on the go. The machine also features an Express Card slot for expansion. The new Chicklet-style ASUS keyboard is used on the machine that puts the right shift key in the correct position and the machine uses the Super Hybrid Engine (SHE) to extend battery life.
The keyboard is 92% of full size compared to a desktop and has a larger shift key. The track pad uses multi-touch technology and the machine has a 1.3-megapixel webcam with digital array microphone. The 1004DN also has an integrated fingerprint reader for security and has 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
The machine has a 10-inch LED-backlit TFT WSVGA screen with a 1024 x 600 resolution. Overall dimensions for the machine are 277mm x 194mm x 27.4-34mm and the weight with the 6-cell battery is 1.45kg. ASUS uses the Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz CPU in the machine with the Intel GN40 chipset and 1GB of RAM. RAM can be expanded to 2GB and storage is to a 1.8-inch PATA 120GB 4,200 RPM hard drive.
ASUS is mum on pricing and availability at this time.
