Hi Guys,

I've just bought an ASUS p320 PDA smartphone recently. The phone is impressive feature wise for 10k phone, and is not quite as slow as reviewer's bash it...I was looking to further tweak the phone, so any guys can help me with that?

1. I've found out that there are different shells available for windows PDA like SPB n' all. R they useful? as some people claim that they decrease the phone battery life?

2. What is the latest ROM available for this phone? The ASUS site shows 4.15 but it isn't available in english version

3. One thing I've noticed is reception ain't that good compared to previous phone nokia e50. Many times I've found the phone showing no network coverage...Do other user's also feel the same?

Regards,

Use Advanced Configuration Tool .., its basically the same thing as TweakUi for Windows Pc .

However be careful while using it :)

SPB shell and all are not useful at all IMO .., however i found HTC home and icontacts(iPhone style contacts) useful ..

PS - Never tried any of them on the Asus .., however should work

well, i for one cannot think of my phone with spb mobile shell. tab based interface works the best and if u just had a task manager tab there it would be close to ideal. i use a p3400 which has a similar 200 mhz procy and even there the interface doesnt seem to slow down.

battery life i cant really comment. am never much away from charger.

also get third party applications like s2p and stuff from A_C S2 Applications for Windows Mobile and you are set

it is not the best but yes, if u want a shell there is no other really which comes close. install and check out the theme on xda. i dont think you will want to go back to standard wm interface once u do that :D

Then it should be without instead of with :P...tried it out, its pretty good :)

Hi,

I was looking at this phone along with HTC 3400. Do you think that Asus is a better buy? Does it comes with Blackberry software?

thnx,

^Dude, it'll be surely better than htc p3400 as it has newer OS and GPS...
Also its available at sub 10k prices now...how much are u gettin 3400 for?

A few queries:

1) How is the battery life (standby , talk time, GPRS usage, Wifi Usage)?

2) anyone tested skype on Win Mo and particularly on this fone (wifi and GPRS)?

3) How is charging through USB (if available and can I connect GPRS on my laptop using the data cable)?

4) How is the GPS performance ?

Hope I havent asked too many questions.

don't realy know about this device but is available on ebay for a good price of Rs.9290 (8290 if ICICI coupon is used)

Sorry for replying late, but here's what I think of it:

1) Battery life: It can go around ~ 1.5 days after a full charge if you talk around 1 hr. in this period and basic usage.

2) Not tested skype....but i think it should run without any problems...as none of the other software's have any problem running on this phone. But on an another note, I suspect the Wi-Fi output power of the phone is pretty low...you have to be located pretty near around the router otherwise it dosen't catch wifi signals.

3) It's the best part, phone charges through miniUSB cable...so you can charge it from anywhere like PC's, iPod adapters, etc. That's why I don't mind its kinda low battery life.
Haven't connected GPRS on PC using this phone, infact i haven't been able to configure Airtel Live(internet on mob.) on it, but it could be due to I haven't tried much to sort out the issues...

4) GPS dosen't work indoors and outside also, you have to be quite patient as it takes rather long time(~2-3 mins.) to fix location (probably due to lack of A-GPS). However GPS is usable, once the location gets fixed, its pretty neat...
Things may improve if you connect the supplied external GPS antenna, I have yet to try it out but carrying the GPS antenna with u isn't a practical solution...

This phone ain't that bad as you may get the impression from reading my above post...few +'s about it..

1) The phone is not that slow as often said in its reviews. Its managable, if you're used to Nokia's previous generation symbian phones like me....you won't find it slow...

2) The touchscreen is quite decent, you can avoid using stylus for basic usage, even for messages if you use enhanced keyboard solutions like touchPal, etc...

3) The music playback on the phone is great and the supplied earphones are also quite good.

Overall, the phone is definately worth its sub 10k price its available at. Look wise, it definately gives impression of > 15k phone and feature wise also it can easily compete with any 15k phone...
