Hey guys,

I get a BSOD, while installing Windows (Any Version) on either my IDE or SATA Drive.

Iv tried even the Latest BIOS, but it fails to fix the problem.

It install the first time, when i got it. That too, after a lot of effort.

Now, i dont remember how i did it :(.

Its not a faulty Mobo...

Check all these links out...

Any suggestions? :(.

I need a desperate format :(.

Thanks.

Edit : This is the exact error.

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.

Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

I found 1 solution..

I gues ill have to get myself a FLoppy Disk Drive then..

Create a floppy disk from you Asus MB CD located on

x:\Drivers\ITE8211\MakeDisk Makedisk.exe

Boot from WinXP CD

Press F6 to install ATAPI drivers

Insert floppy when ask

Choose OS and Continue

Then, vwalla!!!

Welcome Windows Setup appear!!!

If this is a ATAPI driver problem - what would happen if you copy the i386 directory from the XP CD to another HDD/partition or external USB HDD and start the setup procedure from there. I think it may install if done this way.

Maybe next time you need to reinstall XP you could give this a thought.

well i've faced bsod while xo installs drivers a lot of times .. it hangs for time and reboots if tht is the case remove all hdd's and install on one of the hdd clean anc dclear.

Well for VIA-based mobo's using SATA HDD's its mandatory to use a floppy drive.

I thought you were already using one and hence didn't mention that to use.

Its always better to use mobo drivers instead of Win XP embedded ones.

Well, Ive been trying to install XP again since the past 3 months.

I hate slow performance! Even a bit slower than the day it all is freshly install, irritates me. I already get all angry and sad at the same time, when it takes about 2 mins for my System to boot up.

15 seconds in BIOS then like forever in Windows.

Its very irritating!

^^ Err.. there's something wrong with your system then.

My oold Athlon XP 2000+ used to boot in about a minute

Dont format your system for 7 months and see :bleh:

Also, the fact that my 250GB HDD is almost full. Maybe 2GB remaining.

Time to get 2*500GB Hitachi's!

Check in BIOS if 32 bit Data Transfers option if present is Enabled for the HDDs. I am not too sure - but I read somewhere that if you make this change it is better to reformat the HDD. Let Dipdude confirm this.

Also in XP check in Device Manager if drives are set to run in DMA mode.

Empty up the prefetch directory under Windows - this speeds up boot time for me.

^^Doesn't really matter. I made myriads of changes to the bios and haven't had to reinstall since Dec 2004 :). The PC runs as fast as day 1.

^ Eazy, i am still wondering if he has XP installed or not.

Goldie, so to recap - you have multiple hard disks(Sata & Pata) and you are not able to install XP on any of them even after formating(NTFS) and repartioning them ?

You have updated your bios, loaded optimised defaults, and have not o/c your system in any way, right.

What is your current OS, Hard disk sizes etc

_______________

Do you want to install xp(If yes - on sata or pata) or do you want to reduce boot up times on your current os ?

Arre this moron told me on the phone " ASUS AI Life mobo's don't support xxx XP"

I was like wtf u crazy ? Then he told me his problem and I told him to post it.

He has installed an Original copy of XP. This problem is not new but since he bought his comp.

Lol.

I said, Fake copies might not be working :bleh:..

Dont lie :bleh:.....

I dunno whats up.

Ofcourse, i tried to install on Stock, everything.

Ill have to get myself a FDD, and use the F6 key method.

IIRC i dont think you need the Driver disk if you are using the SATA ports native on the Intel southbridge, you will have to do this for 3rd party SATA controllers like Silicon Image ones or Promise.

Trying to install OS on a PATA drive, should cause any problems also i suggest clearing CMOS once before starting installation.

Also i would recommend using WinXP setup that is bootable[ofcourse] and SP2 embedded in it.

Also your board has 4 SATA ports and all are from ICH7 so shouldnt cause any problem but then..

Just try whatever i told ya,may be it will help you.

I did reset the jumper and try.

Didnt help.

I was trying to install on my SATA Drive. Its only 40GB so it sohuld be a problem.

I read up a bit, With this motherboard, You need a Floppy with the SATA Controllers to install.

So, on Monday, ill stop by at Lamington Road, on the way back from my Exam and pick up a FDD and a DMM.

^^ i am dead sure, you wont be needing a Floppy Driver Disk for installing on SATA drive.

I remember installing without any hiccups on my P5WD2 board.

Also please try installing OS on PATA drive, easiest thing to do.

Since NF4/915 days the native SATA ports dont need driver disk, iirc
