Check if the AntiVirus is switched on in the BIOS - I found that XP does not like having this option switched ON during installation.

Goldie RTFM !!!!

Ignorance is bliss !!! seems to be in ur case (always it seems) .....

You need to attach both the optical drive as well as the IDE drive on the same IDE cable and then attach it to the BLUE IDE Connector on the m/b, as that is the only one which is supported by ICH7R natively. (ICH7R natively has only support for 1 PATA / IDE channel)

Once you load xp then use the asus driver CD to load the drivers and activate the other IDE connectors (RED) on the m/b and then seperate the optical drive and ide hdd on different ide cables.

If you are installing to a sata HDD then xp should load and install normally without the need for any driver, floppy or otherwise. just keep the cdrom attached to the blue ide connector on the m/b.

To all members ....if you are not using RAID Then there is No need to use a floppy while installing XP irrespective of the chipset on any m/b. if it was the case then that m/b would not sell--- .period.

^^Naa deejay VIA K8T/M etc chipsets don't have IDE emulation for SATA drives. It'll work on all other chipsets without issues.

@ chaos,
I am using the asus K8V-MX currently which is based on the via k8M800 chipset (IGP). i am using the seagate 80 GB SATA HDD and i did not need any drivers whatsoever to load xp.

ps. I used a sp2 xp cd for the install .....

Omg :S..

I looked passed that :O.
I was using different IDE Cables for my HDD and CD-Rom!!!

Ill try that today!!

Thanks Deejay :O.
