Hi,Guys Just saw this Beauty and wanna share with you all.

Last month we already mentioned that ASUS is working on a new 'Mars' like product, it turns out thje be the ASUS ROG Ares.

The most interesting fact is that the product is no longer be based on NVIDIA chips, yet would be a Radeon 5870 X2 (5970) model. ASUS would use up all available stream processors (2x1600) and then opposed to the 5970 use normal clocks.

* Normal clocks: (725/1000 MHz core/memory)

* Expected Mars 5870 clocks: (850/1200 MHz).

First of all.... that's a render.

Secondly... HOLY CRAP that looks haawwwt! :D

By the look of it, is that thing triple slots or what?

to me it doesn't makes any sense rather than show off. coz one can buy a 5970 & the only difference will be the looks.

but same was not the case with MARS as it was 2*GTX 285 with each having 2GB of memory & the same product was not available as in this case..

Is that one HD5970, or 2 x HD5970...?

Now in real-life ladies and gentlemen .. this would just be an overclocked Radeon HD 5970 or simply the R5970 in Crossfire -- but likely with some more memory and a price tag over inflated.

@Nav33n: If the rumors are true then this might not just be overclocked 5970, but custom PCB and much better VRMs than stock 5970, for better voltage regulation and better OCing capabilities. Not to mention, Asus might even use better CAPs on these babies for overall stability.

Looking at the size of that thing, there could be some truth to the rumor of 5970 cross-fire.... :P

Ares had a quadriga – a chariot drawn by four gold-bridled (Iliad v.352) fire-emitting immortal stallions. Among the gods, Ares was recognized by his bronze armor; he brandished a spear in battle.

^What stability lol? We've had two 5970s, both running in a/c environs. Both crash with 3D apps, one every half and hour, the other every hour.

@Vandal: I don't have any first-hand experience of 5970, but from what I've read, AMD/ATi have made too many sacrifices on 5970 (inadequate cooling for VRMs, in-efficient VRMs, not so good CAPs), causing stability issues on 5970 boards... I'm just wild guessing here that Asus may pull all stops here on Ares, being it an Ultra Niche product like it's previous Mars cards.

^Lets hope they do. The stability issues suck. Right now, for a large monitor an X58 board and two 5850s makes the most sense. Only a fool would buy the 5970.

Lets hope NVIDIA can keep their GTX 480s as cool as Cypress ;)

Asus HD 5970 Ares

Cebit 2010: 850MHz

Asus HD 5970 Ares is one of the largest graphics cards we have ever seen as well as one of the most powerful we’ve come across. This monster is capable of outperforming any card available today.

The card is based on the Cypress GPU but rather than running at reference 725MHz GPU clock, it runs at astonishing 850MHz. This is the same clock we have on the single GPU HD 5870, but in order to address this dual GPU card’s thermals, reference cooling was not enough. Asus came out with a three slot wide solution, which works well and we can tell you that the heat coming from the card was acceptable for our makeshift thermal sensors (we actually just put our hand there).

The memory runs at 1200MHz (4800MHz effectively). On the I/O panel we found one dual-link DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort connector. We must admit, however, that the three power connectors are pretty scary. As you can see from the picture, the card has two 8-pin and one 6-pin controllers, which says enough of the card’s power craving as well as what this beast is capable of.

The card is equipped with 4GB of GDDR5 memory. On the back we have big heatsink.

i won't be surprised if Ares would be powered with 2*HD5870 @ 850Mhz with 2GB memory/GPU..:bleh:
