It is said that the HD 4850 is 20% faster than the 8800GT and HD 4870 is 20% faster than the 9800GTX. As we all know, GeForce 9800GTX is only 10% faster than the 8800GT. We are able to get a clearer picture of the performance of these 4 cards as shown in the diagram below.

In 3DMARK06, Radeon HD 4870 will be 32% faster than 8800GT, 22% faster than 9800GTX and 12% faster than 4850. AS for 4850, it will be 20% faster than 8800GT and 10% faster than the 9800GTX.
AMD Radeon HD 4870 is 20% faster than GeForce 9800 GTX
i guess the GT200 gona beat ATi 4 series !:(
i think GT200 ll be atleast 40-50 % faster than 8800 GTX and 30-40 % faster than 9800GTX

Thats just 3dMark06!

very ritely said bro...

i remember nash sayin me the same thing for the 3870X2....
on papers its a bright card... but when he compared the same against his
8800GTS 512mb... they were both more or less on PAR...

hence i wud trust NVdia more against ATI

Maybe because if Nvidia and ATI do not win the "GPU battle" alternatively, there won't be constant improvement. ;)

hmm ok and there should be some end to this Improvement ? :bleh:

or they want us to upgrade gfx card every 12 mnths ?:@

Heh heh. I think they want us to upgrade every 6 months and that is what is causing the slump in the PC gaming industry and not Piracy as they claim. I remember a decent mid-range card bought at the right time would last for two years and now there are about three generations which pass in that same time-frame.

The Radeon HD 4850 will apparently feature 480 stream processors, a 625MHz core speed, an 825MHz shader speed, 512MB of 1143MHz GDDR3 memory, and a 114W thermal envelope. The faster Radeon HD 4870 will also have 480 SPs, but with an 850MHz core speed, 1050MHz shader speed, 1GB of 1935MHz (3870MHz "effective") GDDR5 RAM, and a 157W TDP. Both cards will also feature 256-bit memory buses and 16 raster operators, just like existing Radeon HD 3800-series models, but with twice as many texture mapping units (32 instead of 16).

Hardware-Infos says the Radeon HD 4850 will launch at $249 and the Radeon HD 4870 will be $349. If recently leaked performance numbers are accurate, the 4850 may significantly outperform Nvidia's ~$300 GeForce 9800 GTX.

And of course, G280 is gonna kick a** of ATI's latest toys (source: VR Zone)

BAh !!!!
this GPU war is makin me crazy.
other day i order a 9800gtx to find again in a month nvidia/ati will be out with their new guns.

i still remember usin my 128mb AGP nvidia 5200 GPU for over a span of 2.5yrs.

20% faster ? hope it is so?
Then ATI is going to trash all G80/G90 series..
4870 Wont compete with GTX 280, isn't it too earlier to call? may be GDDR5, Shader clk, 32 TMU n 480SP's wil do some magic on 4870.. Who knows?

4870x2 is what ati has for competition to gt200 .. i truly hope its pure performance is better than nvidia ..not just performance per price ..

and looks like 4850 & 4870 will drive down the prices of 8800 gt/gts & 9800gtx as well..:hap2:

hmm..i feel when theres around 50-65% improvement over the present NV8 series cards, it calls for some serious upgrades.. else 20% aint worth it in the real world gaming,

well thats just my 2 cents, that said, m definetly saving some serious dough for the GT200 cards :P

Heh, the real battle is in the power these cards draw, and I think ATI is going to win hands down this generation on that one. They have a better process, smaller chip size, and enhanced PowerPlay. I think ATI might win in the performance segment while NVIDIA will still have the King's crown :P

They better let the cat out already... I am holding on to June 18th... Hopefully i wont be disappointed... Get ready for loads of cheap 8800GT's in TE market by the end of June...

As previously predicted the journey towards a 'full disclosure' of the Radeon HD 4800 series cards would be made through baby steps and the latest to be taken sees the Radeon HD 4850 and 4870 leaked in press photo form. Available for staring just below, the first two 4000 series cards will be powered by the RV770 chip which is built using the 55nm process and offers 480 Stream Processors. both cards will feature a 256-bit memory interface PCI-Express 2.0 support, CrossFireX, Unified Video Decoder (UVD) 2 and DirectX 10.1.

The Radeon HD 4850 will be equipped with 512MB of GDDR3 memory and is said to cost in the realm of $229 to $249.

The Radeon HD 4870 will signal the 'proper' return of AMD/ATI to the high-end segment as this card will utilize one RV770 chip paired up with 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. The HD 4870's price tag will hover around the $329 to $349 zone. Both Radeon HD 4800 cards are said to be ready for a mid-June release but the Radeon HD 4870 will apparently become available in July.
