oh! how you find 8.12? these are the most stable one..:)

yes they are stable but I hate the idea of waiting 5 months for stable drivers whereas nvidia always needs 1 month max

The current scenario is that 4870x2 may improve a lot when catalyst 9.1 drivers will be launched...But we can't ignore that

the current winner is GTX 295. We also have to take into consideration that over a time nvidia drivers will also mature and

we should expect jump in performance that we are expecting from catalyst 9.1 :)

Now AMD should reduce prices for 4870x2 soon to make it clear winner in terms of price/performance ratio.

Crown back to nvidia...........

let'em keep da card in da showcase..............................

while X2 sells out like hot cakes hehe............................

nice review.. i see GTX 295 rocking all the way.
what you are taking about improvement with AA. is right but However, although ATI has the upper hand here, it's still not enough fps for gaming. So performing on that setting doesn't matter at all.
else where it is GTX 295 All the way.:ohyeah: :hap2:

fudzilla has also reviewed for an overclocked version.

Fudzilla - EVGA is the first with an overclocked GTX 295

the party of ATI is now really spoiled.

in CB review,at 2560x1600 the 4870x2 is faster with both 4x and 8x modes and 5% slower without any AA so i don't know what you are on about.and with other resolutions its much faster at 8xAA mode while being a tad slower at 4x.
even Hocp which show the settings that are "enough fps for gaming" and use the new 9.x driver say its a tie between the two cards overall while the 4870x2 is faster at 8xAA in two games out of the three they testesd for apples to apples.

GTX295 seems to be bottlenecked by memory bandwidth,Hocp review shows most performance improvement by memory overclocking.and barring a few titles isn't really a performance improvement over 4870x2 while being slower in some cases.
the redeeming factor might be overclockability and better drivers from nvidia.

exactly, if we see minimum fps, X2 wins in crysis Warhead, Stalker CS, left4 dead, farcry2(2560.8AA)

fallout 3 - almost tie

295 wins in Call of duty -WAW

overall X2 wins in 4 games & 295 in one..:)

Good news, Nvidia on a roll again, AMD launched good quaddy = more competion = price cuts = everyone happy! WOOT!

I wonder why muzux2 dislike nvidia so much even his frog is red ......

when GTX295 is clear winner in performance even then he is advertising for 4870x2 (no doubt it is a good card)...GTX 295 is not a middle level card so price is no big deal for those who want $450~500 card and it is not that price diff. bet 295 and x2 is huge only 40 -50 usd diff. is there

Also higher clocked x2 are still above $510 and when 295 is $499 in begining, so nvidia can decrease its prices further and for benchers GTX295 is far better than x2........

And competiton mean everyone benefits sooner or later ....

I agree w/ U Udit, I got 4850 3 months ago also, guess what it had lead over G92 128SP cards, even beaten 800 core GTS. Now GTX+ laughs @ it

Same happ. w/ 4870, GTX 260 taken rebirth w/ 180.xx drivers and luxury of more frame buffer, cheaper also now.

i use a ATI 4870 512MB dude

i got it as it killed GTX 260 core 192 in July 2008

though ATI drivers screwed me later

I have been following this thread for quite some time, and frankly i dont understand why you guys are arguing, both the cards are awesome and powerful enough to handle the latest games, at top resolutions, all though at top most resolution the ATI has a slight advantage, but in the lower resolutions the GTX295 holds it own, which is credit to nVidia for this comeback, which they had to do, since their reputation was majorly tarnished with the launch the 9xxx series, which was a complete sham. Got to hand it to them for coming back so strongly, after all power consumption are also on the green team's side.

So bottom line you cant go wrong with either of the 2 cards, and in any case in another few months, we will another set of contenders, and we will be at it again!

PS- I do have a soft corner for ATI/AMD, but I like the price to performance ratio dominate my thoughts.

AMD's Response to G200b Slated for March
NVIDIA snatched the performance crown from ATI with the introduction of the GeForce GTX 295 accelerator, and its launch itinerary for CES 2009 includes the GeForce 285, NVIDIA's second fastest graphics accelerator. NVIDIA's campaign to regain the performance crown was spearheaded by the G200b graphics processor, that, while not offering anything new, helped cut manufacturing costs and reduced the thermal envelope of the GPU, making conditions favourable for a dual-GPU accelerator, the GeForce GTX 295.

AMD on the other hand, has announced price-cuts to respond to the GeForce GTX 295, by lowering the prices of its Radeon HD 4870 X2 accelerator. The G200b is likely to get a competitor from AMD by March, when the company is looking to release the industry's first GPU built on the 40nm manufacturing process, the RV740. But wait, there seems to be something larger on the cards, according to the various sources Hardware-Infos got in touch with. AMD is planning the RV790 graphics processor. It will be a current-generation GPU built on the next generation 40nm manufacturing technology. There is a lot of speculation surrounding the RV790's specifications, with some of the more plausible ones hinting it has two additional SIMD clusters (960 SPs) and a total 48 texture memory units (TMUs). Both the RV740 and RV790 are slated for March, there's also a little indication of AMD using the occasion of CeBIT for its announcements and product launches.
