Graphic Cards ATI Radeon X1800 "R520" !

R520 spy pics

The card you are seeing is the R520 XT. It is a dual slot solution and uses a cooler similar to the X850. ATI will also offer one-slot versions which will have less performance.

The will only be PCI-Express boards. AGP versions are definitely not planned.
Internally the chip will use 512-bit memory transfers. However, the external memory interface will still be 256-bit - expect some nice marketing from ATI regarding that "feature".

Right now the product lineup is:

R520 XT
512MB RAM
~600 MHz core
~650-700 MHz memory
Dual slot cooling
Dual DVI

R520 XL
256MB RAM
~500 MHz core
~500 MHz memory
Single slot cooling
VGA + DVI

R520 LE
256MB RAM
~450 MHz core
~450 MHz memory
Single slot cooling
VGA + DVI

R520 XT Crossfire Edition
256MB RAM
~600 MHz core
~650-700 MHz memory
Dual slot cooling
VGA + DVI

Aha ! Now that R520XT does look sweet with 512MB RAM clocked at those speeds !

I wonder what nVidia's response to this card is going to be...

Neways more new

Someone at ATI said it's so good that it deserves twice as big a number than 900 and ended up with X1800 as a product name for this new Radeon based on R520 marchitecture.

The mainstream card, based on an RV530 core, will be named Radeon X1600. This card is supposed to fight 6800 standard in mainstream segment. Radeon X1600 should sit around $199 price tag.

The entry level RV515 is going to be called the Radeon X1300. This very affordable ATI cheapo card should land around $99 price mark. ATI will finally offer wide range of Shader model 3.0, HDR and some nice video features for the whole family.

The cards will be launched in the first week of October. µ

From the Inq

nVidia isnt gonna do anything as we know. No 7800 Ultra.
The r520 xt is only a match up to the 7800 and maybe not, as mentioned.
The r580 series will pose a threat to the 7800 Family, Later in November/December.

R520 is direct compitition for 7800 series. And its a big threat if ATI gets them out in good numbers.
R580 is taped out but ATI wont release it any time soon, its too early for that card. It dosent make business sense.
And dont think what Inq posts as facts. I am sure we will see faster 7800 card if R520 outperforms 7800GTX.
Its not too difficult for both nvidia and ATI to change their strategy at last minute. Specially in case of higher clocked cards with same features.
We dont know if 7800U is comming or not. I think its just mater of time and ATIs R520 performance. Inquirer is like a blind man firing bullets. They shoot a lot ;) :2guns:

lok at this.

When did Inquirer even had any reputation? ;)

They are gossip and speculation site.

You know there was a time when Nvidia banned Inquirer reporters from their functions and press conference. That tells you all you need to know :P

Nvidia probably banned these guys because ATi respects them a lot.

For instance, do you know where The R520 gets its codename Fudo from? From INQ of course. It was writer Fuad Abazovic who first leaked out news about it even before the R420 had launched.

I respect these guys in the same that I respect Mid-day. Minus the sensationalist tabloid feel, there's some good investigative reporting and quality here that you won't find elsewhere. Any journalist at INQ has attitude in his/her writing. Can you name any journalists from other news sites offhand?

This article is a must read. Do you think any other website could do this and carry it off? Go through the whole article, I loved it.

>Click on this link for some R520 pictures.

Another reason was Nvidia "thought" that Inq was being biased towards ATi while reporting news. Inq has some good reporters but then most of the time they make all kinds of speculations basically covering every kind of rumour. One article they'll tell you that the R520 is going to be 32 pipelines, the next it will be 24 and the next 16 ;)

The reason for them getting banned was not their inclination twords ATI but they failed to respect the NVIDIA NDA. And that too multiple times.
