Graphic Cards Ati VS nVidia

^^ good point harshal ...... i also hate ATi for these reasons ..... still i can't find good motherboard from ATi(i mean chipset) ...... and when it comes to india then the situation gets much worst ..... but i thank nVidia(or i can say nvidia partners) for bringing all the newly launched chips to india .....

No longer an issue... The X1900 cards, including crossfire were available 2 days before launch and ppl had the cards even before launch. Everyone makes mistakes, ATI screwed up with the X1800 launch. For that matter, how many GTX 512MB cards are available as of now :p. About the multigpu thing, ATI itself never supplied to the US army. Custom boards/systems were made by SGI and Evans&Sutherland using off the shelf X800/X850 chips. The tech they use is proprietary and ATI can't release that into the market.
 
NVIDIA all the way .. Cuz I am Own One and i dont have any more $$$ for any ATI counterpart.:rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :bleh:
So whatever performance nvidia gives as long as its playable in cool quality in my 17 inch flat i'mma happy :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:
 
Price/performance above all. And performance is more or less equal nowadays.

As for IQ, nVidia AA is totally crap at lower resolutions. 1024 4xaa on nVidia and Ati is worlds apart. Higher resolutions are ok.
Ati also has slightly better AF, but it's no deal breaker.

Shimmering isn't that noticeable in most games, but it's horrible in GTR. I made a thread about it a while back. Even high quality mode won't fix it.

Although nVidia does have better drivers and profiles support (impossible to do without). And DV/contrast/image sharpening can make some games look awesome if you play around a bit (Warcraft3 with 50% image sharpening, GTR with 120% contrast, Sam2 and Farcry with +10 DV).
 
Hmmm.... My heart is with ATI but Branis always say nVIDIA... Why cause of Indian Prices/Availability/Brands/Support...
 
Let ATI come up with decent drivers for Linux/FreeBSD and then I might (I mean I just might!) think about giving ATI a go with some of my money.

I am for whichever gives the best bang for the buck. And yes to me IQ does matter.
I have seen NFS MW in anction on a 6800 ultra ( Chaos ) and a 7800 GT ( switch's ), and trust me there is a huge diff in color reproduction between ATI and Nv hardware. Again bottom line is better VFM.

both 6800 ultra and 7800 GT are nvidia hardware and u say u've noticed a huge diff. in color reproduction. I'm a li'l confused at wat u compared em with...ur 9800pro? do u mean to say even 9800pro reproduces colors and effects better than a 7800 GT? :huh:
 
@Chaos, my friend that's what I said. "Good to see them learn from mistake". Comparing "SUPER Xpensive" prducts from NVIDIA or ATI is different as XT PE were as much hard to find, and the term GHOST Card came world. Where as GTX512 SLI setups are till date are featured on Top10 3Dmark05/06. So if no cards are there then there is no score. Also there are news that the "GHOST" GTX512 are selling well in India, confirmed by fellow TE members only, so I need not go too far. About ATI not Supplying to Army... I don't think so without ATI's support SGI will be able to crack it. I can be wrong, but I think SGI doing every bit alone is lil too hard to digest.
 
Well harshal i beg to differ but having hard product launches everytime and be able to have them in huge lots is not possible . The Gtx 512 is a example of that. The board is simply not available despite you claiming a few selected oc'ers having it. As per rumours floating around the g71 is has also been taped out recently and is having yield problems. As for the dealers in india, they just always claim to have cards in stock. In reality the situation is quite different.
 
I whole heartedly agree with you Blade. The thing is to change the situation which as far as I can see it is by NVIDIA. Yes I also know that GTX512 was just there to take away the attraction from X1800XT and the 1.1ns GDDR3 (now seen doing duty on most X1900XT Jan'06, GTX512 launched NOV'05) it used was also not so commonly available when it was announced. So that is a "boost your ego" kinda card from NVIDIA. But thats what companies do. This does not take the credit away from last years 6X00 and this years 7800 series perfect launches, or does it? Secondly, G71, those are just rumours as you said and I dont think NVIDIA is the company which will shoot twice on its own foot. But yes since they are shifting to 90nm there can be some difficulties. ATI seniors executives had to agree the problem did exist with X18XX (90nm part) series to the investors during the meeting.

Edit: My first tryst with ATI was when Farcry demo had released. I was playing it in ultra quality at a woeful framerate on a 5600 ultra. Well one fine day a friend of mine got a 9800 pro for me. (March 2004 i think) I was astounded at whether it was the same game or not. I just couldn't believe my eyes. The 5600 had huge issues of objects popping into the viewing frustum. A game dev friend of mine saw it initially on the 5600 and said that the engine sucks. He was shocked when I showed him the same again on the 9800 :p. Though NV has improved IQ since then, it still has the shimmering issue to solve before it can be said to be on par with ATI. Also the colors look washed out on NV cards. Don't know if its just me or everyone else sees the same.

Absolutely right on..The visual qual is what counts after all u are paying for what u see basically...and if both guys cards can render @ 60~70 fps...what difference does a 5% speed bump give.. I'd say visual qual on ati's are better..much better, I got a shock running farcry on the 5700 and later on the X800XT...the 6800GT is better, but still the red un looks better by some disty...
 
Well, you should compare the Picture on the 5700 with a 9600. Not with an x800xt.

You would expect differences in picture.

nVidia uses a different way to render the images. So does ATi. :).

I think we all know that so, i just wanted to remind you that.

Like i said, i think most people here will go for 10 more fps than a lil' better IQ.
 
^^Depends. If its 10fps vs 20fps, then obviously one would prefer frame rate. However if it is 90fps vs 100fps, I'd gladly take the image quality over the extra framerate.

buddy I mentioned 60~70 fps...with games giving 120 fps a few here and there won't be noticable...but the IQ will be..:p
