Ok... went to buy my girl freind a 21 inch tv today, and ended up buying Samsung Bouardex (whatever hell the spelling) for myself 32" at lil over 64k.... So I will do the budgeting later, but what a way to start the new year. So I come home excited that my graphic card supports HDTV and my TV does have an HDMI interace.... but I dont know how to plug my graphic card output via the hdmi interace.... Currently I am using the TV out cable to connect at the back of my Samsung in AV1 using normal s video cable... now its not giving me all the resolutions I want... display has grains etc. Am I doing this correctly? Should I not be using the HDMI interace....??? Any Samsung users out here...

Mods forgive me if i m posting this in the wrong section.... but I guess I have a hangover :bleh:

Thanks Chaos.... is their signal loss using DVI to HDMI cable? Are these easily available in India??? What about component cables.... which is perferable component or DVI to HDMI.... Also the Onida LCD TV I saw had DVI input but no HDMI interace, the Samsung tv i bought has only analog input for pc, component input and HDMI interace.... isnt it bad this doesnt have DVI???
Would I see a better signal and higher resolutions with DVI to HDMI converter? Where to source it from?

Would component out also take my audio to TV? I dont want that...

Also what about male female... is this what I need: DVI Female to HDMI VGA Male??? I hope this doesnt carry the audio as well as I plan to use my ATP3's

DVI to HDMI and vice versa is not lossy. You can just get a cable for that. Component only takes video not audio. Until you get DVI to HDMI, use VGA its way better than s-video.

Got the component working and its really great... I can read the text and its all clear. Few follow up questions:

1) I have options of 2 resolutions 720p60 and 1080i30... I am currently on 720p... which is better if I am not seeing HD content? Also when I set it to 1080 my wallpaper becomes box size... any workarounds? In 1080 mode it can only support 30 hz but with 720 it can support 60 hz... From resolution point of view 1080 is better but I am finding 720 better visually...
3) Compared to Sony Bravia was Samsung a good choice, caz I was getting them both at same cost

4) Is component = HDMI or is HDMI via DVI converter better (if so by how much?)

5) Is the DVI to HDMI converter cable available in India? How much will it cost and where can I buy one?

6) My Windows MCE TV Tuner TV is now displaying the TV in 4:3 format... any workarounds to display it in 16:9....

Thank you guys.... what a way to begin a new year... with a new HD LCD TV :D

720p will look much better than 1080i cause its progressive & i is interlaced. so u will see many scanlines in 1080i. i would suggest u to use 720p as your tv doesnt support 1080p.

i think you made the right choice by getting bordeux over the bravia.

component & hdmi via dvi will give u the same output. i doubt u will notice any difference visually. although i am not 100% sure about this as i havent tried hdmi via dvi, have only used component myself.

i dont think the hdmi via dvi is available here but u can try & find out in some shops.

u mean your tv tuner is not stretching the image & showing black boxes on left & right or it is showing 4:3 stretched. the tv signal is 4:3 here so i dont think u can get the perfect 16:9 ratio so that it doesnt look stretched.

The DVI to HDMI cable itself is plus 2000 bucks but the image quality isn't that sky high compared to the component which is always a very good choice.

as for the resolution, Stick to 720p. u won't find even proper 720p material to play on it so no point going any higher in the resolution cos the higher u go, the more upscaling ur TV does on the 99.9% non HD content ur playing onto it which adds grains & sidebars to the video. lower resolutions are better for all video's like XVids u download etc.

samsung always owns at their service part, not to mention they are good at their products as well, & probably one can never go wrong buying something of samsung ever.

Abt the TV tuner - U need to check in ur Tuner software to change the resolution. dunno if it will do it or not.

& yes I can arrange u DVI to HDMI cables if ur in delhi/NCR or mumbai. just PM if interested.

^^ Well my TV Tuner is not stretching the image via Windows MCE. I am getting 4:3 image on a 16:9 TV and thus blacks on border :(

^^ Here is what is happening.... I launch MCE and it comes on full screen on my TV no blank edges....
1) I play My Videos, no problems, it plays my videos full screen with no blank edges
2) I play My TV, and I get 4:3 picture with black edges
3) I play a DVD again, it plays it 4:3 with black edges

Whats going wrong... I am sure there is some setting somewhere set to 4:3 instead of 16:9, but I can find any such setting in mce... what to do???

I had a similar problem when i tried connecting my 42" plasma with my x1650pro. I tried all hdmi, component and s-video. But to my surprize, the connectivity using vga dvi convertor on gpu and normal vga cable(using pc mode on samsung) was giving best image quality. Also look for hardware acc. on dvd software that u are using. the avivo engine on ati cards makes a lot of difference during dvd playback.
