Two of my friends are looking to buy those Philips/Sony Hifi system. I have asked them to wait for a week while i get them the inputs for a better audio setup. There budget is 30k each. No need of a player. Though tried reading through some of the older posts but cannot get any specific information.

So what they need is an Amplifier + Center Speakers + Front and Rear Speakers(or am I missing on something here, basically whatever is needed for a complete audio setup).

Specific shop in Delhi where we can get it would be appreciated as well(and if we can demo), budget is 30k, one of them can exceed it if the setup is worth it, for the other 30k is the extreme.

I know chaos and other audiophiles do not give suggestion in this budget range but still any inputs would be appreciated.

Well, 1st they'll have to decide if they need a stereo setup (just 2 speakers) or a 5.1 setup. If the major use is going to be music, then stereo is the way to go. If movies are more important, then 5.1 would be better. An amp is required for either.

It will be more for movies and less for music. I think if a 2.1 is able to deliver the punch then they wont mind that(personally i prefer surround sound, but its not my set so whatever). As i said they were debating over whether to go for philips or sony, so anything that you people will suggest will be good for them.:hap2: :hap2:

because they dont have much idea of creating/searching for good amp+floorstanding speaker. But now i am insisting to them to wait and lookout for the amp+FS speaker setup.

Wharfedale Diamond 8.4(~19k) or Sonodyne Sonus 2605(~21k) with a Norge 2060(~7k)... kickass combo for less than 30k. If they can spend a little over 30k, look at the Marantz PM4001 amp(~15k).

They can pickup a norge amp for 6-8K, and get a pair a good speakers. Options in that budget for floorstanders would be sonodyne, wharfedale, mission, Mordaunt Short, among others. Pick up the latest issue of AVMax and check the ads for shops in your area. :)

great!!! so thats it???? I think i will let them demo both the Norge and the Marantz amp, but norge is available only in mumbai it seems from their website. Got the address for sonodyne in Delhi, so would head for them this weekend for a demo. Also found out some hifi stores in delhi, so will check out and get your suggestions again...:)

In Delhi, you can go to Bercos (connaught place, inner circle) - Meet Mr. Prashant. they stock Sonodyne, Yamaha, Denon & Jamo.

Its a good thing to take a demo. When I forst got my ATP3, i was seriously disappointed with the bass for the first few weeks.

Later when I returned to college, and I had to listen to the creative inspires, i came to understand what i was missing all these years.

^^ Bercos Melody House is what he means.. Its above the restaurant if I recall correctly..
There's also Swadeshi @ Palika Bazar, Decibels in GK1 & Gurgaon(these ppl don't stock too many brands though) and another Sonodyne dealer in Metropolitan Mall @ Gurgaon..

Edit: The Music Shop in Khan Market is/was also a good one.. Had been there long ago though..

I'm using the Sonodyne Sonus 2605 as a 2.0 setup temporarily with a 7.1 receiver and trust me you WONT be disappointed for movies.

Music performance as Zhop mentioned will anyways be outstanding, don't even bother thinking about Sony/Philips.

Swadeshi/Bercos in Delhi & Digitus in gurgaon (Metropolitan mall) are the authorized dealers of sonodyne. for demo u can go to either Bercos or Digitus. @ bercos they have a separate demo room but digitus lacks that but still they will demo it to you.

Dont know about Swadeshi, i have been there a very small shop fully packed with amps (brands like Denon/yamaha/Sonodyne etc.) dont know if they give demos.

if you are going to Metropolitan mall apart from Digitus there is a shop on the first floor (dont know the name) that deals in brands like Marantz/Denon & Jamo. Will be on the higher side but will at least give an idea of the quality and sound of these brands.

Heh, the Marantz SR4001 (Basically the 4600 with HDMI) and a Marantz DV4001 DVD Player. I also use my PC as a source with a Digital Coax cable through the SPDIF out :)

going OT.

I am planning to get a decent source for my self. what do you suggest in brands like NAD/Marantz etc... the cheapest available source for music only. for movies i can still do with my onida.

i've heard accolades for NAD.

^ The NAD C521BEE or the Cambridge Audio Azur 540C, you can't go wrong with any of them, both are really fine spinners and the NAD might be a tad cheaper as well, clocking in around the 17k mark.

Don't forget to save atleast 3k for a good interconnect ;)
