Hi AudioLords,

A weird, weird problem up for decoding!

The problem, I've been facing since quite sometime is, the audio distorts while typing anything.

So if a song is playing and I am chatting or Googling something, the audio distorts and skips. I recently discovered this and never knew behind my brain that the audio infact skips and distorts while typing.

It is happening while I type this too!
Haaaaaalp! :)

Make sure the Wires behind the CPU are not messing with each other. Also are you sure this problem is both with speakers and head phones?

Try reinstalling Sound Drivers :hap2:

I will reinstall sound drivers. Will check the wires too...but problem is with both speakers and headphones. Thanks!

I'm sorry if it's in your sig, but can you post your hardware specs please. I have signatures and avatars disabled.

Normally this is due to poor implementation of the sound device. Sometimes drivers will correct this, sometimes it won't. It may be a resource conflict, are your network device and sound device sharing an IRQ?

Do you also get some crackling when you move the mouse? Let us know which power supply you're using. It's a not a simple problem and can have three or four different and unrelated reasons.

I don't have the config in my sig, will write it down here though not a pro with these details:

  • Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit
  • AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 5400+ 2.8 GHz
  • ATI 2100 Graphics
  • Gigabyte-MA74GM-S2 Mobo
  • Realtek HD Audio (Onboard ofcourse)
  • Kingston 2x2 DDR II-4 GB Ram
  • ATX 550 Watts Power Supply 120mm (Don't know the brand!)
  • WD 500 GB + 160 GB SATA HDD
  • Samsung 22x Sata
  • Microsoft PS 2 Keyboard & Mouse
  • Altec Lansing AVS 300 speakers (left satellite dead)
  • Samsung SW2033 LCD Monitor
  • Zebronics Transparent Side Panel Cabinet
  • Intex UPS 600Va

Bought the rig in April this year.

That's about it. I reinstalled the sound driver, yet the problem persists. However, my friend suggested to play the song on WMP and I did, and found reduced distortion while typing. But after playing in VLC & Winamp, the problem continued! He also says that it could be due to the RAM?

I don't know how to check the IRQ. And the distortion does not happen when moving the mouse. Thanks.

I'm not much of a Vista person, so I don't know how to solve your problem, really. Maybe someone else can help.

I see... no problem. Checking out what other forums have to say! :)

What about CPU usage. You can check it in the task manager. A high CPU usage by other applications can cause audio skipping.

That's the cause of this problem:-the PS/2 keyboard. I had the Gigabyte GA MA78GM-S2H motherboard and I encountered the same problem. After lots of head banging and sound card swapping I finally found the issue to be the old keyboard.

No need to buy a USB keyboard. Boot into BIOS and look for 'Enable support for USB keyboard'. Enable it. I know this sounds weird but it worked for me.:ohyeah:

Lol, I deem you've posted something similar on other forum too (my RnD skills ;)). And I guess it's you only... who recommends to enable the USB keyboard support in BIOS and says it's weird.

But I went to BIOS and couldn't find it there? You press the 'delete' button when your comp restarts and then go to BIOS, right? Where am I wrong? Thanks!

LOL,that's me on Tomshardware and Asus Xonar forum:bleh:

Press DEL (repeatedly)when the computer is booting up. You will be presented with the BIOS screen. Use the keyboard to navigate. Look under 'Integrated peripherals' section. It's listed there.:)

This screenshot may help.

Glad that I could be of some help. Now blast away those speakers.;) Enjoy the undistorted sound. I just wish I had deduced the cause of this problem a bit sooner. I ended up buying a new motherboard for myself in the course of this problem. Now the Gigabyte is happily packed away.

That saved me some head slamming and relieved me of a 4-month worry!

Left satellite is dead, I've another thread on this, but can you suggest me good speakers? I am looking for Philips MMS 430, AL VS 4121 (manufacturing has been stopped)... something in the same range.
