Audio Technica ATH-M50x vs Sennheiser HD 558

id pick the m50x over them.. some people prefer the 558s (brown ones right?) i dont find them a tad bit laid back.. maybe cuz i listen to electronic music and u cant beat m50x unless u spend double the amount.. so id def pick that cuz its easier to drive.. but a amp'd m50 might just surprise you ... spend 1/2k more n get the m50x
I'll only comment on the comfort factor of the headphones. I've used both the ATH-M50 and the Sennheisser HD555.
The Sennheisser was extremely comfortable and could be used for long hours without your ears getting hot. The ATH-M50 on the other hand i couldn't use for more than half an hour to an hour at a time. My ears would get extremely sweaty and hot.

Open headphones are always more comfortable than closed ones. Also, the greater clamping force of the M50 does make it uncomfortable for long hours. The SQ and clarity is definitely a step above though.

I've the M50 and 598. While I haven't used the 558, people say they're quite close to the 598 in terms of audio fidelity.
Get the M50 if :-
You want better bass and overall tighter sound.
You don't mind having a narrow soundstage.
You have people nearby or want to isolate the surrounding.
Get the 558 if :-
You want better soundstage (it's MUCH better than M50 for games and movies).
Better comfort. The M50 are way too cramped to be even close to the comfort of the Senn. HD 5xx line.
Keep in mind that you won't really be able to use the 558 outside of your home. For me, I'd prefer the 558. They're much more comfortable (I can wear them for hours, while the M50 starts feeling hot after like 40 minutes), and I watch a lot of movies, so soundstage is a big plus for me.
They're both great headphones.

M50x for price to performance. Though the closed ear thing might be an issue for some people but it gives a better sound isolation which lacks in most headphones. The ears pack inside that leather surrounding giving a superb isolation.

@SaurabhJain666 The problem I feel with the HD 558 is that they are not closed. I would like a closed and over the ear headphones.
