Audiophile and gears

... there is Samson SR850 ( heard them, very decent for price, but somewhat bright and bass light...but don't pay more than 3K INR for them..just wait out for prices to come down and they will for sure)
...

Exactly what I felt about them, bright & bass light. For me they have skull crushing fit, can't wear them for more than couple of songs.

There is dual pack of SR850, in the recent Amazon sale bought it & shared with a friend, comes less than 2.5k. Enjoy!

I have already got ath m50x and blon 03 so was looking to fill the space between them.

How different will their signature be from ath m50x and are they lighter and more comfortable than ath m50x as I love m50x but can't wear them for too long aa my ears start to hurt.
So you need an open back, and hd25 is closed back and not very comfortable. It's out. You need an open back.
How much is the HD598 ( if available) or the HD599?
Both are pretty good.

I couldn't find hd 598 ( most of the listings said hd 598 sr, are they same? ). Hd599 black ( it says special edition ) is going for 9k at amazon.

If you are open to used, there is one 598SE, listed on headfi. The member location shows as Hyderabad & listed for 6k INR.

I am from Hyderabad as well but don't know the member from headfi.

Thanks for the suggestion :) but i will most probably wait on a deal on new ones, as with covid and everything logistics don't seem very good to me.

Initial impressions are that the bass is on the higher side. Not overpowering but some degree less would have been better. Otherwise these sound pretty clean and balanced through the LG G8x with Quad DAC enabled. Soundstage is average. The good thing is that these are pretty small and light and with the small tips you do not even realize that they are there. So pretty good as sleep earphones. Cheap build but for 300 bucks no regrets whatsoever.

Mine Arrived in morning just listened to them for 15 -20 minutes . My Initial impressions are similar, Soundstage is a slightly better than average i would say but nothing to shout home about . Super light and small tips so yeah even i didnt feel anything in ear and think you can wear them for long time comfortably . Bass is on higher side but its tuning , once I equed they sound pretty good .

They are ofcourse not perfect ( I mean they cost 300 ) but I cant see how anyone can beat this in bang for buck and probably sound as good / better than most eims / buds in1.5 - 2k isj range .

I will test it on calls later and if mic is as good as reviews say this should be my new good for sleep with whatever , keep tangled or atleast use for calls iems while still providing very good sq. Only reason I might prefer ve monks maybe are i like buds more than iems for comfort ( these also are super comfortable though ) , but these are amazing bang for buck honesly. No regrets for me too.

Going OT AGAIN: Don't know about you guys, I am still mesmerized by Neraaj Chopra's gold medal.
We own the silver and bronze in the same event, but many of us were watching the javelin finals together in the office... believe it or not, almost all of my Czech colleagues were cheering for Neeraj after the first throw. What a wonderful feeling.

This thread has scratched the itch for my first budget audiophile can.
:banghead:

Been reading the thread for a while now and the first thing that intrigued me was @quaratineinthesejeans 's post about the 560S. Searched around for more reviews and came to a conclusion that there's a huge possibility I won't like the sound signature (bright and fatiguing?).

Now comes Deva. Should I really start saving up for one if it's going be my only purchase for a few years? Will it be a significant improvement in the listening experience from my equalized Airpods Pro? Just for the record I hate how the Sony WH XM3 sounds.

Is a DAC/amp must along with a can or iPhone's built in dac or M1 air with apple dongle will do the job ok?

How's the bluemini adapter with the Deva?

Comfort is a huge huge factor for me as well.

Quoting a post from another thread.
I tried Malayalam playlist on Spotify few years back and was shocked to see level of mastering in their stuff. Top notch.
I have always felt this but never did hear someone mention it. Malayalam songs always sounded much better to my ears. Quality of some songs are shockingly good.

I am relieved that I didn't miss anything by not buying DEVA, in fact a little bit happy that HiFiMan can's improve with each iteration.

For the time being, I am holding off any purchase (I just hope I can hold my horses). I will wait for a good deal on 400SE or go higher up in the chain.

You can get in by buying some IEMs as well. Won't break the bank and you can learn which type of sound signature you like the best and I would say that then just get the best mid-fi cans you can get with that sound signature.
I did the same. Loved my RE1 and found that the HD650s have similar sound signature and just straightaway bought them and haven't had to buy anything after that till now. I too, don't like bright sound signature. I like, tight bass, forward mids and relaxed highs. And of course good soundstage, instrument separation and detail resolution should be better than average. The 650s fit the bill for that and I think an upgrade for them is gonna cost me upwards of 50-60k, so not gonna upgrade anytime soon.

if you are using airpods pro you defo need upgrade , most cans mention here are significant upgrade . But you still need to find ones you would like more depending on sound signature , kind of music u listen to , if you want open or closed etc . So kind of hard to recommend a headphone for anyone to you without all these things . Also as your first headphone maybe u might prefer dynamic over planar . Or like other guy said maybe u want iems instead.

For using with iphone /mac apple usb c to 3.5mm dongle is fine unless a can is hard to drive ( which then might need amp ).

I was going to say regarding deva to people who want to buy , I think if you were to buy deva wudnt it be better to buy one with bluemini ? its 100$ extra sure but you wud get much more use out of it with blue mini while watching a series or anything on tv etc ( ofcourse it will always sound better wired ).

Makes sense but here in India the unit with bluemini is double the cost

I'm really sorry for making you people curious about this hobby.
If you have self control, yes, a good headphone is great. But some of us loose it completely and keep on buying headphones/ dac/ amps/ speakers one after another for years.
Please don't make this stupid mistake. All the headphones discussed here, are good enough and should be sufficient for years to come.
I'm trying really hard not to buy any new headphones for months now and ended up buying only 3 ( it used to be about 2-4 every month)
Sort out your source(s) first, if you are using M1 Mac, you will need an external DAC, other Macs and newer Windows laptops don't necessarily need one.
Regarding portable source, will suggest a DAP ( even entry level DAPs can be used as an external DAC) plus the phone dongle set up usually messes up the experience with notifications/calls etc.
Once you have sorted out the source, go for the headphones. If the headphones sensitivity is less than 98dB, you may need an amp. Please try to avoid inefficient headphones as your first expensive ones. Most new planars are much more efficient these days and can be driven sufficiently by almost any DAP.
PLEASE don't waste your money on very expensive DAC/ Amp set ups early in your journey.
All the best!!

Plus the bluemini doesn't fit any other headphone. BTR5 is possibly a better buy if semi wireless isn't a big issue.

I think I made a mistake late last night. I went over to the Head-Fi Forums and started browsing the "Show us your Head-Fi station at it's current state" thread.

My jaws fell to floor after seeing some of those setups. I think I'm going to be broke way earlier now than I thought. The dark side is telling me to give in.

Guys any experience with koss porta pros and where i can get them for somewhat decent price?
Fun sounding headphones and quiet portable. However very bad at blocking sound so the portability helps only in silent environments. I would suggest to invest in a better headphone as I feel the price of about ~4k is a little much IMO, I got mine 10 years back from US and its still going strong (other than the earpads which need regular reshuffle)

This sin is not easy to wash out. :p

Yeah current price is 42 percent more than what they are going for at amazon US. @quaratineinthesejeans has suggested sennheiser hd 599s. So, I'm waiting for a deal on them.

My source will be my desktop's dac, it is something from realtek. Sennheiser hd 599 has sensitivity of 112 by voltage and 101 by power, does it just sit on the threshold for amp requirements? Also is 9k a good price for them?

Sorry this is too long but are planars better, hifiman he 400 se is planar, does being planar make it better than hd 599?
