Forum Feedback Auto-lock for old threads

This has been happening with me quite often ( yeah, I'm a bit unlucky). I check for new posts 5-10 times a day and start reading threads. I read a long 3-4 page thread and finally realize some idiot has bumped a 2 year old thread.

No, I don't read the time and date of the first post and I don't even realize that the thread is old. So, don't suggest that. :P

Can't there be an auto-locking policy for threads that are old? I mean, like ancient old. 2 years is a good starting point. I've seen that in many other forums. Now that TE is 5 years old, a 2005 thread is really not relevant in 2010 (in 99.9% of the cases).

If we are looking for something in particular, we always hit the Search button for that. Atleast someone will not be able to post in an extremely old thread without realizing that the thread is old.

Technology changes day by day and posting in the same thread will not help since the matter is going to be quite irrelevant if it is 2 years old.

I know I'm rambling but this has happened to me more than once in the past 2 days and it's getting irritating. :@

digging of prehistoric thread must be stopped, because this is a tech forum and not a history one, and those archeologist who digs these prehistoric threads must be......
 
waits mates, have patience, the mods will sure listen to this. Mods are very active these days

First post in that thread Dec '09. Later posts just two months after.

I agree in the case of commerical threads that it makes sense to lock but less in other areas.

My record to date is bumping a several month thread (one you started btw) and ppl liked it :)
 
@blr_p check that sansa thread people are posting saying i need one or 2 players even after Wingzero has clearly posted the GO is over

And i agree with you about that particular thread or any market thread for that matter, once concluded :)

Don't see a problem with it, as it highlights a more recent solution to the problem.

If someone was looking to achieve the same fact that its been updated is useful.

Whether a thread is to be bumped or not largely depends on the kind of reply given and subject of the thread. If it updates the knowledge in the thread and is relevant then where is the problem :)
 
^ Okay, that may not be the best example there is, but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.
 
In most cases, I think even the person who bumped it wouldn't have noticed that its a very old thread.

In another forum I visit they give a warning like this when you try to bump an old thread and you have check a box before the reply is posted.
