AVG is a very good free AV, but from my personal experience as well as comparative reviews I think Avast! is better. It provides better detection rate than AVG and has all the features of AVG AV.

Thanks for the info though. :)

Used AVG free for 3 years...and one day tried Bitdefender v10 free. LOVED IT !! So forgot AVG

BitDefender is pretty good, only problem is that it is resource heavy and has less detection accuracy (both real and heuristic) in comparison with Kas and NOD32. I prefer NOD32 as it is very light on system, but does need improvement in the front of User Interface.

^^ It uses less than 10 MB of ram. How much does Nod32 use?? :S

Hello

How much resources your AV will take will depend upon your activity. If I am idle then NOD32 takes up about 5MB of resources. :D
Unbelievable? But it is true. NOD32 is known to be lightest AV for a system and has the best Heuristic scanning engine. I have settled with this after experimenting with 3 other Top AV products.

i was using avast! Home for the past 4 years or so still find it the best.. uses 7 mb of space.. v light on the system plus it has skins for its scanner.. so that maes it even better.. by far it has the best heuristic scanner.. Avast won cnets award for the best AV from 2001-2005.
