The Unreal series originally started with Unreal which was a single player game with trend setting graphics and more importantly immersive EAX supporting audio .

Then came Unreal Tournament which was a multi-player game with support for single player through bots.

Then Unreal 2 was released and it was again single player game,

After that came UT 2003 which again like Unreal Tournament was a multi player game along bot support for single player. UT2004 was their latest release and it is more of an updated re-release of UT2003 than a new game all together. It just made some enhancements to the engine and added several third party mods into the package.

UT3 is majorly a multi-player experience, but unlike the weak single player experience in UT2003 and 2004, this time around they have made a story driven single player experience.

It actually completed the UT package, it wasn't a update like the ea sports series. There were some major gameplay tweaks, new additions and lot of extra content from epic and third party mods was added. It also bought in gud ol' assault and brand new Onslaught gameplay mode. Ut2K3 was like 30% in compared to UT2k4. Not to forget the 2 free bonus content packs later made Onslaught even more fun with new maps, character vehicles.

If I remeber right, UT2k3 had almost everything that UT2k4 had. What UT2k4 added was a much better tweaked engine and more content. both from Epic and third party. Though the new additions make UT2k4 much bigger, you could achieve the same with UT2k3 once you download the same third party mods.

btw UT2k4 is the largest game folder on my HDD after Steam.. :P My steam folder is about 18 GB in size while the UT2k4 is about 16 GB with the extra maps, mods etc. I hope with the kind of content going to be released for UT3 after release one would require a new HDD just for UT3. :P

2k4 had 40+ new maps from epic only, 2 new gameplay mods & a couple i think user created ones, and besides new character skins, character models, music (i love ut's collection), vehicles, announcers, textures etc etc.

Wall dodging was added, shock become faster, sniper's hs became more difficult, clipping issues was fixed on the most part, sniper from ut classic was back a nifty smoke trick to keep campers on check and a 10000000000 tweaks on vehicles, maps and character models. Gameplay was much smooth and flowing, many specific gameplay tweaks were made for different game types (in tdm's link guns could "link" with allies link gins to increased power), dual enforcers, and the shield gun was toned down to prevent harassing. Not to mention the brand new Onslaught is still better then battlefield & ET:QW

to name a few...........
