Guide Backup the contacts on your Nokia!

NOW THIS GUIDE IS ONLY FOR THOSE UNFAMILIAR WITH NOKIA'S PC SUITE AND THE SYNCHRONIZE OPTION !

I've heard so many people complain that they have lost all their contacts from the phone after formatting the software or other kinds of repair.

Why bother entering details of each contact manually,all over again!?

So following the simple steps i've mentioned below,will provide instant backup and relief!!!

What You need?

Latest version of Nokia PC Suite

Data Cable/Bluetooth/IR connectivity

Your Nokia phone :bleh:

Easy peasy steps:

1.Download or/and Install the latest version of Nokia's PC Suite software.

2.Make sure the installation of the software & drivers is successful.

3.Configure PC suite to connect to your mobile phone through the data cable,Bluetooth or Infrared.

4.Using one of the connectivity options(in this case a data cable),connect your phone to your PC.

5.Nokia PC Suite should automatically open up,detecting the phone connected.

6.Now,Click on the "Synchronize" option as shown below



7.When using the option for the first time,select the "Windows Address Book" as the default database.This is only done once.

8.Once configured,the "Synchronize" option automatically copies all the contacts from your Nokia phone to the phonebook/address book on your pc..

9.That's it ! Your contacts are safe now...

* Now,assuming you got your phone os formatted/updated firmware...

All you need to do is connect the phone to your pc,and click on "Synchronize" and whoosh! all the contact that were copied to the pc,back to your mobile's phonebook ! A FEW SECONDS MAKE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE...

* KEEP "SYNCHRONIZING" EVERY TIME YOU CONNECT YOUR PHONE TO THE PC ,TO KEEP THE PC DATABASE UPDATED !!!

* This feature syncs contacts only from the phone's memory.

So it is advisable to copy stuff to your sim card too,if you frequently use it in different phone

There is a slight problem in this method. If you synchronise your contacts with the Windows Address Book using the Nokia PC Suite, only the contacts present in the phone memory will be synchronised. The contacts present in the SIM memory will not be synchronised.

A roundabout way is to copy or move all the contacts to the phone memory and then synchronise the phone.
But this is a very minor problem since most people save their contacts in the phone memory itself but still some people like me may save some contacts in the SIM card too. It helps a lot if you have to suddenly use your SIM in someone else's phone.

Yep,i meant the phone memory !
And i was addressing the problem of losing the sim card...
Either way...good to have contacts on the sim & phone where the latter can be further backed up!
 
This is not the proper method if you want to backup your contents. It works, but there is another proper method.

Using the Content Copier app of the Nokia PC Suite.

What I've mentioned is a simple method of achieving the same result !!! An alternative...

Content Copier is more useful when shifting data between systems or if other kinds of content are to be backed up.

Your supposed to sync your mobile with your PC as often as you can!!!
Atleast once every now and then to update the phonebook on your pc...

After that,even if you lose your mobile and get a new Nokia mobile,you can just connect that to the pc and sync back the entire phonebook from the pc to your phone !
 
can we have a general solution to this problem like its nokia specific...

once i lost my mobile (SE) and lost all my contacts and later i switched to nokia .it took me months to get my contacts back ...
 
Nokia PC Suite dont synchoronise Mobile (home), mobile (business), Tel. (home), Tel (business) from Nokia phone to outlook. I have tried this with N95 as well as N85 but sheer waste of time. This issue needs to be addressed by Nokia.

Have no clue bout the software bundled with other brands...
See if there is a similar synchronization feature in the software bundled with the phone...

BUT...
what you can do is to transfer contacts from your phone to the PC through Bluetooth or IR.They'll basically be vCard files that are easily supported by the Windows Address Book.
OR
you can copy the vCard files from the phone's memory (if there is a phone browser on the pc) and paste it to the Windows Address Book.

So you can use the Windows Address Book to manage your contacts on the PC !

And if your SE mobile gets stolen,just connect your new SE phone to the PC and transfer(Copy,Paste!) your vCard files back to your phone !

Simple as that.

The Sync option primarily copies the two main numbers listed under the name.
It can be a combination of any two numbers..
be it Mobile (home), mobile (business), Tel. (home) or Tel (business)...

But then a contact would mostly have two numbers right!?;)

Nokia could offer better sync options...
So keep updating your PC Suite software !:hap2:
 
Use the generic method.....

I use ZYB.com and the google mobile sync.... Awesome and customizable :hap2:
