Bad ping on all online games

Ever since I have installed a wifi router (Belkin, don't remember model, the most popular one)my pings have increased so much that it is impossible to play online games anymore. The problem is that I don't really like single player games anymore. My ping stays around 300, even to starhub servers. I used to get around 100-150 ms ping to them earlier. I like to play Insurgency and TF2.
I have opened up all the relevant ports on my router. I am on Dataone 256K connection.
Any suggestions?
 
1. Try to switch off the firewall on your router.

2. Make sure the MTU size at which your router operates matches with the MTU at which your modem operates. e.g if it is adsl max MTU can be 1494, and ideal i gues would be 1464.

Try turning off the firewall to see if the ping improves.

Try running a traceroute to google.com and some other websites, that will show you the ping time to each router you go through and will help you get an idea of where the ping starts going up.

My firewall is already off. How do I run a trace route?

Which sector you live in?

Many people in Sectors 27,19, 18, 17, 16, 23, (and maybe more) are having the same issue. So its not your fault but frekkin BSNL's issue. Hence kindly stop fiddling with your router settings etc. :P

i think its a bsnl issue.i also have abnormally high pings.just wait a few days and maybe,it will come back to normal.

I live in sector 19, Panchkula. I have had the same issue since the last 2 months now :-(
 
contact your sector's executive.... AFAIR its been a while since bad pings in chandigarh too... more than a month.
