Looking for a lappy for my fiancee , should be =<15" and not too expensive n heavy. Looking to get a 3yr warranty so that she has no worries for 3 yrs if anything goes wrong with it.

as of now zeroed in on the Dell Inspiron 14" plus will get a 8% discount on the MRP
This config with the 3 yr warranty comes to 41K after discounts.

Decent buy. Especially with the Complete Care for 3 years and onsite service. Also take a look at the Studio14. Better build quality IMO.

The Acer is VFM but the build quality is not upto mark and has a pathetic trackpad :@ Personally have used my friend's Inspiron 15 and Acer 5738G(similar chassis as the 5740) and found the Dell to be better.

If you are gonna use the laptop with the track pad most of the times then a immediate no for the Acer 5740. The laptop is also a bit bulky so u need portability and that too u are gonna buy for a woman i guess so its better to stick to a 14" laptop.

The Dell inspiron 14 weighs 2.2kilos whereas the Acer 5740 weighs 3.1kilos.
 
well TBH a similar config in the studio 14 series would be 10k more , does not really matter as there's the 3 yrs complete cover warranty , so even if i give it to them in 2 pieces they will replace the laptop for me :) would rather save money there n get a better config.
 
no coz i already bought one and she found it too slow and unresponsive , although she did like how cute n tiny it looked n how it 'fit' in her purse *LOL*

so i guess its the laptop way then , no choice but to look for something decent that will last her a while.
 
can i bump up the MSI warranty to 3 yrs ? looks decent for the price , again its a C2D and not i3 , 2gb vs 4gb and 2yrs warranty as opposed to3yrs , also 250gb hdd vs 500 ( hdd less space is acceptable )

lemme google around for reviews , however the post that its 1yr warranty in Mumbai is a little concerning.

msi covers all its laptops irrespective of which area you live in with 2 years of warranty @ 25k i doubt if you would get such a solid price to performance ratio.2gb ddr2 800mhz ram(corsair) will cost you rs.2500
 
if i can get this config for 25k i'd buy it eyes closed. 28.5+2.5k for ram
31k still something to think about in comparison
 
Msi CR-400x is worth 25k for this config - core 2 duo t6600 @2.2ghz,2gb ddr2 800mhz ram,nvidia 8200m 512mb graphics card with 256mb dedicated vram and 256 mb system shared memory,western digital 320gb 5400rpm harddrive, a hitachi dvd writer,6 cell battery which will give you about 3~4 hours of battery backup.
 
looking around to see IF i can get this for 25k, i doubt itd be that low , im sure it will be much higher , but ill begin looking.
 
Dude, I've been using Acer5740 (WIN7 pro, core i5, ATI5560, 4gbRam, 500gb HDD, Handbag). I got it for 44K and paid another 4.8K for 3yrs complete cover. The only reason I bought it as it wont become outdated for another 1.5-2yrs.

It is as heavy as a Dell studio laptop and has good sturdy build too the only problem is that its looks are not that great. It runs cooler than Dell Studio too. There's no difference in the track-pad's sensitivity compared to a Dell inspiron or a studio. Dell has a better web-camera but Acer's not too bad either actually I liked the acer's better as it was smoothing the picture making my skin look cleaner :) .

BTW I would advise you to get a mini retractable mouse to use with any laptop you have. Also the direction keys sucks big time on the acer they are very small I found it extremely uncomfortable for gaming. Dell Studio also has small direction keys but a bit bigger than Acer's.

Battery life is equivalent to a Dell Studio 15 sometimes even better 2.5 hrs(30 min of Movies[.m2s], 15 mins of NFS shift, IDLE-MSword).

I connect it on my 46''LCD and play Gears of War @ full HD(med settings). Just get a good laptop cooler(size 17'') for gaming and watching FULL HD movies.

Talking of trackpads, I found the same of DELL STUDIO 14 totally irritating. Response is really bad. :(
