BANK.IN exclusive Indian domain for Indian banks to tackle banking related cybercrimes.

The goal is to ensure ease of identification of genuine banks for the customers.

I think this is very innovative and appreciable. What is your opinion?

Another domain FIN.IN will be brought for the rest of the financial sector too.

.gov.in address would have been better.
.gov.in address would have been better. Better to
.gov.in is for government institutions.

Some banks are private and cooperatives as well, with no government ownership. Even other PSUs like IOCL, BSNL, etc. tend to have separate domain name and not gov.in. Thus .gov.in would be a misnomer. And Bank.in bypasses these irregularities and helps establish uniform identifier for all banks.

Is this for the corporate or PIB or both domains ?
RBI says it will be for all banks. It should be operational by April.

I think they will keep the current domain active and redirect everyone to the new one.

IMO, all banks coming on single domain name will help with regulation immensely and help tackle proliferation of fake addresses leading to cybercrimes.
I kinda like onlinesbi.sbi compared to onlinesbi.bank.in
I think state.bank.in will look cool too. B-)

I won't trust both bank.in and fin.in
Who's records only show Details
REDACTED FOR PRIVACY

This should be any private institutions who will later try to govern banks and customers.

Can you explain? I am unable to follow the argument.
I believe he is talking about the whois records, for the domains bank.in and fin.in

If I understood correctly, the government is in the process of creating a new TLD like .edu.in or .ac.in or .res.in. The TLD will now be .bank.in and .fin.in
So, banks will be able to create a domain in their names in this format - sbi.bank.in or axis.bank.in
What you have been checking for in the whois records is the domain named bank.in (the TLD being .in). The .in domain can be registered by anyone. These two new domains (.bank.in and .fin.in) would probably be available only through an exclusive registrar identified by the Govt., just like ERNET is the official registrar for .res.in, .ac.in and .edu.in.
Please correct me if I have understood you wrongly.

Correct @logistopath many banks still wont adapt to this easily (specially private sector banks)
The best part SBI did was getting .sbi TLD (thats more secure then bank.in or fin.in)

What may be the reason behind this?

RBI is the regulatory body for all the banks. It is a part of regulatory guidelines to the banks. I don't see how banks "won't adapt" to this.

RBI has said that Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) will act as the exclusive registrar.
