AMD are having loads of yield issues according to investment analysts. But lets hope for our sake this is true...

Amd vs intel is going to be as great as a knockout match to be supreme, david vs goliath, autobots vs decepticons. Will amd be the next heavyweight or will intel still be the king of kings! One thing you can expect- amd can blow the monopoly player when it comes to pricing. Stay tuned to september 10 for the crown!

I think Intel too is currently having yield issues with only 50% successful yields for their 65nm proccys. I think I read somewhere on this sometime ago. Wonder what the scenario is now as C2D prices have fallen considerably. Anyone have an idea as to whether this is sorted out?

Anyways, just hope AMD gets back in the game. Intel really needs some competition. They're crooked enough as it is without some.

^^ Nope not as far as I know, infact they even have gone ahead and design tested their nxt gen proccy's using 32nm process.... ;)

Intel is leagues ahead, the question is will AMD be able to survive the nxt few mths, or will it be consumed by some memory giant (hints Samsung) ;)

Ooh...that doesn't sound good. Scamsung or L(ow)G(rade) don't sound good for proccys  .

You really love AMD don't you Sorceror :D ? Well...I like rooting for the underdog too(who doesn't.). Can't wait to see AMD kick some Intel butt hehe.

I mean this in a good way...I like the way you go all hyper in your post  . Really brings some life into the situation.

Intel has the tech and the money(most importantly) to have a good yeild... While AMD doesnt... And that is one hard fact...

But amd plays a big role to pull the price down the price of intel. Granted they are making the comeback deadlate-but amd knocked down intel when presscot processors used as a mini chicken tikka maker. I am not saying intel can be knocked down easily-but amd will not throw the towel down that easily. Amd is a great processor in its league and most will agree. There are some enthusiasts using a8n combo with amd-same goes for xp version of the processor. There are still many amd enthusiasts here hiding in here all will agree when i say with a big smile-in amd we trust.

But the scores are unbelievable. I dont think in the history of AMD/Intel war we ever had one beating the other by such a huge margin. Can we believe this report...

I think most people have missed out on a lot of news lately about AMD, since no1 corrected the assumptions ppl have been making.

The processor to be released on Sep 10th is a Barcelona (Server) chip which runs at 1.9Ghz and wont give you the performance that the benchmarks promises to be. Sometime in Dec start, we'll have the Agena FX CPUs released which will have a max speed of 3Ghz which when combined with 2 ATI HD 2900XT in Crossfire will give you 30k. Those are FX CPUs that we r talking of which means the price is gonna be sky high and by the time its here in India, it'll be actually worth getting a Kohinoor diamond.

Another thing to be understood that the desktop variants for us mortal humans (with smaller wallets) is gonna be released in Jan-Feb 2008. We really dont know about the performance of those chips... So hold your horses and let C2D/C2Q live happily till then!!

^ Maybe you are but what he said was perfectly right :)

The 3.0Ghz FX-80 will be no less than $1000, and the desktop chips are Phenom X4 running between 2.2-2.4Ghz priced at around $250 to 400.

Oye, I know the 3Ghz will be 1000$. Im just not sure their mainstream proc will launch as late as Feb...

^ Yeah the consumer variant .. Phenom X2 (dual core) and X4 (quad core) is slated to launch around Dec - if they dont delay things. IIRC the entire lineup of Phenom including their FX series would be out at the same time. I'm hoping they come to the market with enough availability at launch time too, else parts will actually roll in only by Jan~Feb as sunbiz said.

Barcelona cores being launched on Sept 10th are the pure server-oriented multi proc variants.. similar to the Opteron 2xxx and 8xxx 2-way/8-way procs. You would need a multi-proc board to go with it among other hassles.. ie it isnt intended for consumers. In fact the additional HT links it has is one of the reasons why Barcelona isnt scaling too high.

They will be releasing a single-proc variant called "Budapest" (similar to our Opteron 1xxx models) which can be slotted into AM2/AM2+ boards. This too is launching around the Dec timeframe.

yes..dec makes sense...They cant afford to wait 6 months n release that winner as late as Feb...If they have tested 1 successfully they better make a million pieces fast...

They really r waiting for the next stepping for better yields and max speed bumps...and thats why Im pretty sure AMD wants to launch full-blooded only in Jan-Feb...

Anything before that can be suicide for AMD, since they really dont wanna get on a slow ass instead of a knight horse on the battle with Peryn!!

imho , the 2 core variants of the new amd line should be good enough . C2D wont be phased out soon , so agena has time to build market and probably a double whammy with the next gen AMD processor further improving its chances

have said that , we expected AMD to bankrupt .. that may not be the case .

i am sure the timing couldnt have been better .

AMD has DELL as an OEM , providing its sales team manage to rake in some better margins , the Holiday season should see some good AMD numbers .

Just what AMD wanted from Santa . :)

hoping for the best .

^ Yeah, but we still haven't seen the Penryn numbers ;)

And besides the Yorkfields will be out by December but Phenom is still Feb.

Penryn is going to be released along with Yorkfield but no word about the Barcelona based Turion yet ;)

AMD needs to get moving, quick! if they have to save the holiday season.

AMD definitely aint gonna get bankrupt, since they have 2 options, either go get private equity funding which Im sure have lot of buyers... or they could just sell one of their fabs and start outsourcing chip manufacturing... But I think AMD is gonna do the first one by next yr or two.

The best news from AMD is slowly turning out to be ATI... With Dell and Apple already having all their gfx parts from ATI... I think others will soon follow... ATI finally becomes the buoy for AMD's sinking ship...

PS: The irony is that here in India, we dont buy ATI gfx cards although they r so much better value for money in the US... Seems so odd since India is more of a value market!!
