So mom needs a basic Grill type microwave oven. No special needs. Just to warm food, roast papad and to bake cake occasionally. Also to try some dishes that cannot be cooked w/o a microwave. Usage would be infrequent.
Its going to be our first microwave. So not sure what feature is more important. General opinion in the threads are LG is a good option. Reliability and after sales service are the most important criteria for selection.

Most probably will end up buying in letsbuy due to lack of option locally. So please comment on that too.
Budget: ~5k or so.

TIA :)

wow me too on the same boat lookin for good futureproof Microwave in same price range....awaiting suggestions

No one has any comments even on which brand is more reliable :O Common guys. Need to get it in a couple of days so that it reaches in time for Diwali.

You can't bake a cake in an oven without convection. Both samsung and lg are similar. Just make sure whatever you are buying has a stainless steel cavity. That is all that matters.

Okay. Cake is not a mandatory requirement. So let me drop that. So other than which of the two is a better brand for Microwave Ovens?

The stainless steel cavity ones are all 7k+ according to the LG and Samsung website :( Any cheap option for stainless steel/ enamel cavity Ovens < 6k?

Buy a oven with microwave and grill. You wont use convection that often. It will be the cheaper option. 20L or 23L is good enough for a small family. Both Samsung and LG are ok. I have an LG and my brother has samsung. Both are working well for over an year. I guess even the after sales service might be similar. These are the 2 top most selling brands in India. So service should not be a problem. Dont go for fancy features like 101 preset menu and other gimmick features. Buy a basic one.

Not sure if steel cavity is better or the ceramic one. You can check that out somewhere else.

Get a basic microwave with grill feature... I think u can get them for about 4-4.5k... No hard feeling but the utility of all the extra features dies out after some time... and then u just use it for heating/max sometimes cooking (but if mothers/elders are going to use it then that also wont happen)...

I also got a microwave some months back from Croma... When i spoke to the sales person she clearly mentioned that LG was a more preferred brand and there was no difference between the build quality of both the products... So go for any depending on your preference like design or color or price... Does not matter...

I chose LG cause of past experience: my previous microwave (LG one) worked for a good 6-7 years without giving me any trouble... and was working fine till my cousin put a aluminum foil in it...

Well get a LG since they are the only ones which come with stainless steel, samsung doesn't have a single microwave oven that has a stainless steel cavity.

Look for ezone deals if you happen to have one in your area or online if they deliver to your place, they give the best deal out there, when i bought a convection microwave other dealers where quoting a price of 12.8k to 14k ,where as ezone was giving it for 10k.It was so low that LG had urged ezone to revise prices since other dealers where complaining.

In terms of build quality the panasonic and whirlpool are great built extremely well built, fit and finish is much better. But the drawback is they are more expensive not sure about service.

When you are looking at the models look for how easy it is to clean the interior such as no unnecessary protrusions, also make sure it fits your place ,when i bought a 30lt convection oven it was small in the showroom but in the kitchen it just robs a huge deal of space and kind a looks odd,so buy the right size which you feel that is enough for your requirement, you probably won't need anything more then 23litres.

@virus32win - My requirements are not much and the one that you have suggested is twice that of my budget :( So I would have to skip that.

@ adder and chaos - What are the advantages of having a Stainless steel cavity?

^^No rust. My previous enamel coated LG started rusting in 3 years and it was disgustingly painful to clean.

I just checked the LG microwave (LG MH-4048GW) is the same one I bought and I must tell you it is pretty good...

Regular cleaning of the micro wave ensures no rusting...

Finally ordered 'LG MC2149BB' for ~7.5k from letsbuy (after discount). Went for it since it has stainless steel cavity and its going be a one time buy for quite sometime to come. Hope I receive it without much issues from letsbuy ;)

Thanks for everyone who chipped in with their views in this thread. :)

The enamel cavity doesnt seem to be as good as the stainless steel one. Samsung doesnt have stainless steel ones.

If you go through Choas and Adder's post stainless steel gets more preference and better in the long run.

Mom hasn't made much in the Oven till date. Only used for heating milk, rice and making papad and badam cake.(turned out good)

The oven looks good and the stainless steel cavity is solid and easily cleanable. I dont have much idea regarding the microwave other than this :(

Hi DarkAngel,

Fantastic thread. Lot of helpful info. I was intending to buy one Convection Oven for my home.

Now, since it been some years that you have been using LG, it would be really helpful if you could share your experience on the and make more suggestions.

My budget is 10K-11K. My requirement are simple... heating, cooking, baking & sometimes Pizzas, Pastas, Bakedish etc.

I have seen Morphy Richards MWCon23L 23MCG - Rs. 10400 & Panasonic NN-CT353BFCD/BFDG - Rs. 11500 K.

Croma was pitching high for Morphy coz of may features like placement of heating fan / steel cavity / cooking options etc. Most importantly they mentioned that all others Co. have a warrenty on replacement of parts, varing from 1 to 2 yrs, where as Morphy has a part replacement guarantee for i guyess 2 yrs.

They suggested Panasonic at second place as it did not have guarantee + the high price.

I have not considered Samsung or LG as they have all the good points to think of backed by a good service network. They are not out of the race but will come to them later.
