Last Saturday my mother was playing the game Bejewelled on the lappy (HP dv2601tx Special Edition), and there was no sound from the speakers (Tested by playing few MP3's). But audio was coming when the Headphone was connected. After sometime the Sound started coming properly. So just did a restart of the Laptop, After that now it has started showing Battery Status as plugged in and not charging initially when the Windows loads, and then it tells Battery not detected.

I did switch off the mains, when there was Battery not detected issue to check, and the Laptop shutdown. Now i can run the Laptop as a PC, by only connecting it to the UPS.

The same game was the time during which my Laptop had display issues, for which i had opened the Thread, fo which i got the Graphics Card replaced for INR 6200 :( http://www.techenclave.com/laptops/nothing-is-being-displayed-laptop-display-171200.html

My questions are:
  1. When do we get the Battery Not Detected in Laptop's?
  2. Is the Battery really out of life?
  3. Is there some major issues with the HP Laptops of dv2000 series, since this Laptop display issue?
  4. Any test can be done, which tells what is the issue in the Laptop?
  5. What would be the cost of the new Laptop Battery? in eBay i did see it starts from 3k :(

My friend's DV6 had a similar problem, where both the battery and the charger went kaput showing similar error, but luckily his was under warranty and was duly replaced.
I guess its the excess heat which causes these problems, HP is renowned for it.
Try removing the battery, wait some time, then plug it in and charge via a different charger of the same rating, borrow one from someone just to be sure whether your battery really is dead. If it still doesn't work, a nearby service center is your best bet.

This laptop is more than 2.5 years old, and is out of warranty. May be will check with another Adapter, but i doubt the Adapter has issues, since it show Plugged in and not charging. Is there anything related to the hardware apart from heating issue.

Your laptop battery is gone, replace it.HP dv series laptops are famous for their overheating characteristics: one of my friends got his dv4 fan replaced after 2 yrs and another dv6 after just 6 months, even the hp spares are very expensive if you get it via authorised HP service centres.

i suggest people to stay away from HP laptop especially with AMD+Nvidia combo. They now uses very cheap quality made by a Chinese company called SHIBA.

I have 3 of them lying dud. The company declines to provide the motherboard even when we are willing to pay for it. I swore never to buy HP again and will not recommend anybody to do so.

Before replacing the battery or giving it to the service centre, please check this post: Laptop Battery plugged in but not charging: Solution

Also google for the error "battery plugged in but not charging" and you will find that there are many cases wherein the problem has got something to do improper windows shut down. I remember having the same problem for a couple of days after I replaced my dead battery with a new one. I tried something mentioned online somewhere, but can't remember exactly what I did to get rid of the problem. Though I can assure you that, I did not need to replace the battery or take it to the service centre.

@logistopath thanks mate, i did follow those steps in that link.

Steps i followed

1. Switch on the Laptop, without battery (direct AC supply) and remove both the Battery drivers.

2. Shutdown the Laptop, switch off the mains, Insert the battery.

3. Switch on the AC mains, and now i could see the Laptop Battery up and running fine :)

Thanks a lot TE :)
