Just saw the Digit 2006 copy at a friends place and they had a DVD burner comparison. The drives tested were

Asus DRW-1608P2s
Benq DW 1625 and DW 1640 (which according to digit are quite old drives)
Gigabyte GO-W1623A
LG GSA-4167B
Lite-On SHW-1635S , SHW-16H55 , SHM-165R6S
Plextor PX-740A , PX716A
Samsung SH-W162
Sony DRU 810A

Now this is what digit has to say about the Benq 1640

1) It is a UDMA-2 drive however the DRU 810A is a UDMA-3 drive!
2) DRU 810A can burn DVD-R DL but the 1640 cant
3) The 1640 takes 952 sec to burn an assorted DVD-R disc (Moser Baer 8x DVD-R)
4) The build quality of the 810a is better than the 1640
5) Benq 1640 costs 4.7k while the Sony DRU 810A costs 2.9k

The winner was the Lite-On SHM-165P653

Why do these fools publish stuff before doing their homework!! :@ :@ :@

Well no amount of homework is gonna help a guy who has no brains in the first place :P. Thats what these "reviewers" are.... total amateurs with no grey matter.

these 4 are absolutely correct.

Digit India is not good according to me...
I had the opportunity to meet a guy who review products for Jasubhai digital media.. Trust me.. my cousion studying in Class 9 is better than him.

Care to explain udit??

I have burnt an assorted 4.28gb DVD-R on the Benq 1640 in 8:00 mins!
I all three 1640 , 1650 n DRU 810A the build quality is xcellent on all drives :D

And afaik all optical drives(baring SATA ones) are UDMA-2 only

bullcrap...the 1640 DOES have support for dvd-r dl, afaik it was the first burner to do so...its burns a 8x dvd-r/dvd+r @ 8mins....also being udma3 means squat for dvdburners

pioneer drives r udma3 afaik

Also,1640 is EXACTly the same as the 810A (AFAIK u can even cross flash the 1640 FW on the 810A)

Yup....quite a few ppl have being doin that...crossflashing the 810A to the 1640 as the Benq firmware seems to be better than Sony's

Here is a quote from Digit

"In fact neither Benq models can be called new ; they've been around for a while.Thats's also the reason why neither of them support the DVD-R DL standard"

Morons didnt even look at the box in which the 1640 came....let alone goin thru the trouble to check via Nero InfTool... :@ :@
pioneer drives r udma3 afaik

According to Digit drives from Lite-On , Gigabyte and Sony support UDMA-3 rest all are UDMA-2 only

Why Dont we all send digit some hate mails ? No seriously Digit is one of the few good magazines available in INDIA and if they start making these blunders then who is gonna trust them ? Infact I lost my trust in Digit a long time back and I switched to CHIP which imho is far better then Digit !

Actually,I just don't buy Digit anymore. They have all kind of crap like future predictions, convergence blah blah blah for months together.Chip IMO is WAY better than Digit.

ANother very important factor that makes things so biased is the price that they mention in the end. They take the latest street price for some and quote the on-box MRP for the others. In the end that makes one drive true value for money and best buy, while the other which actually is good turns out to be 'too expensive'.

maybe we should start off with a TechEnclave monthly magazine.. ;)
