Strange problem has occured since evening...i got a burn process failed in Nero 6 with my Benq 1650 with a Datawrite DVD-R 8X and ever since the drive gets stuck at lead-in whenever i try to burn a disc.
Also the option for cancel is greyed out....so is the close 'X' at the top right of the window and on right-clicking the the close window option is also greyed out!

i have tried Moser Baer DVD+R 16x but the same problem occurs...i tried to reboot the system and still didnt help.
try to use data from diff hdd's but still no use....

So is my Benq 1650 dead??? i'll get the drive replaced tomm....prayin for the best! :@ :@
Edit : Wont burn a disc with Alcohol 120% either...the drives gone kaput i guess! :@

Well i tried to uninstall the Nvidia IDE drivers....but i couldnt uninstall them...everytime after the pc reboots...the new device found wizard installs the nvidia drivers.

I had actually updated the drivers...so i did a rollback...and this time round the burn process did begin...but at the end i got the following errors...1) reset occured 2) failed to burn disc at once

and then when i tried to open paint to paste the screenshot i got a bluescreen n the pc rebooted!!

Some1 please help!!

Yep. After to remove the IDE Drivers and reboot, reboot into the Safe Mode and use Driver Cleaner to remove it completely. That way, it will not be reinstalled after a reboot. Should be the "famous" nVidia IDE drivers doing its s@#t job. Also remember not to install it when u update with newer Forceware drivers. It gave me nightmares with my Lite-On 1673s and once I removed it, everything came back to normal.

^^ will try removing with driver cleaner.... but i have a few questions before that...

1) what do i do when i get the new hardware found wizard for the ide controller....after i have removed the ide driver.

2) i also have 2 SATA hdd's on the nvidia controller and windows shows nforce4 serial ata controller...what do i do abt this? coz when i uninstalled these windows didnt boot up( windows is installed on the sata drive)...i had to use the last known good configuration option to boot up windows.

Also the drive reads dvd's but sometimes it gets stuck and i get a blue screen and a reboot!

BTW i just burned Moser Baer DVD+R @ 16x in 6mins 25 secs? is that good enuf for 4193mb?
How long shld Lead-in and Lead-out take??

Lead-in takes abt 40 sec and Lead-out abt 30 secs
How does this scan look?

speed is also abt ok......

Verbatim 16x media burnt at 16x :P GOt for 16/- per DVD. But of course not in India.....

please help me out on this front....i am using the older nforce ide drivers and the drive seems to working fine....but i wanna get rid off the nforce ide drivers!

Edit : the drive is acting up again....wont burn a disc....gets stuck at lead-in.

please help!!:( :( :(

Driver Cleaner shows the option nforce drivers clean up....but with that i'll loose the SATA drivers too which leads to my system being unable to boot-up!

ok removed the nforce ide drivers and installed the standard drivers...but still the drive gets stuck at lead-in while burning dvd's...

The drive is burning cd-r though
