guys ....pllzzzz dont shove your old hardware to some one who is asking for a new card recommendation...buy talking b/w and beating the competition etc etc.....3.5k for a 6600GT makes me laugh i just sold my 8600GT 256 MB for 3750 with 2+ years of warranty remaining ....the price is justifiable cause a new one costs 5k :P

so a 6600gt shud not cost more than 2k (MAX)

Try to get a ati graphics card(that is in case you have a PC labelled as a heritage PC)...you might have a better chance with ati than Nvidia

Add Rs.10000. So total , Rs.12000 for Mobo, Gfx, Cpu and RAM.

My prices may not all be right so please correct me.

AMD 4000+ - Rs.2700/-
Jetway/Asus 690G - Rs.2,600/-
2x1GB Transcend - Rs.1,900/-
8600GT - Rs.5,000

Total>> Rs.12,200

Cut corners on processor, mobo brand or go Intel with 2160 + Palit N73G. yada yada. Get a new setup boy, you deserve it. :)

dpain suggested him the same bfore...blowing up on a 10k on an outdated tech will not bring the results...the whole consortium of ram cpu decnt chipset mobo will actually give that final desired fps in the game...
 
Ok, while everyone has made a case for upgrading, let me make a case for not upgrading :P .

1.) When one is upgrading, nobody wants to go for a bottom of the bin or cheapest configuration. Most want VFM and many want a high end rig. After all, it's not everyday that one upgrades. :cool2: .

2.) Configurations suggested are often without considering an optical drive, PSU, cabinet, gfx card etc. i.e. in other words, they are always cutting corners to make a complete system overhaul look appeasing :no: . When one sees the total cost of upgrading, he'll be in for a shock :O .
3.) Many people with old PCs have a single small problem that can be solved with upgrading a component. for eg: gfx card is low end, memory can be increased etc. Now, while going for a new rig, there is cost of eqpt, setup costs(for people who don't know how to assemble their PCs), possibility of new components not working and the inevitable question....did I really need all this to solve my problem :( ?

4.) Not everyone wants to upgrade to play the latest games. Many people just want to get some life out of their old system or maybe can afford an upgrade that was not affordable to them once upon a time.

I'm writing this bcuz I've been seeing a lot of people saying that going for a new system makes sense and well maybe it does but it may not always be the case...and maybe bcuz I have a selfish interest in offloading my old h/w :devil2: :bleh: .

Seriously though, I'm on AGP and even though I've upgraded to a 7950GT AGP, I don't actually see the difference against my old 6800GT AGP except for very smooth playability in high end games(to be fair, the rest of my system is relatively high end also for AGP).

So, if it's completely new stuff that you desire or you wish to play the latest games, by all means go for a new system cuz you'll need it. If you fit into the categories above(or any other categories), give my post a once over and decide.
 
sydras we are talking abt the net result achieved with a given budget....

1>wrt to cheap stuff...evn if its cheap its far better than wat he sports now...a dual core is the norm dese days..u dont have to get a quad core if u upgrade...even cheap cpu have potential.way better than his jalopy 2.4..
its the cost and perfo that makes it vfm......

classic case is the 8600gt...cost far less than wata 86gts wud..u can oc the thing to its level and wud be just a little behind

look at the 8800gt...thats vfm wen compared to the over priced gts..just bcoz its newer and cheaper doent mean its bad:ohyeah:

2>ha!!! optical drive ??? comeon...
wrt to psu`s the 86gt is a damn friendly card...needs no external pic power connector...a zebby /iball 400w is enuff...
wrt to cabby..most dual cores are half as hot as wat their fathers were..

3>u can always assemble ur comp at the shop where ur buying ur hw..they take the cost of assembling when they quote u the price....
he has a AGP SLOt.....i dont see any of the newer GPUS with AGP support....why? u know the answer...wasting money on a n old tech is never worth it...all u get these days is 7600gs/gt , 7300gt and fx 5200....the x1950 is like finding a needle in a hay stack and even if he were to get one he still wudnt get the perfo he wud get with a mid range pci e card....with each new driver release the newer hw make more giant leaps wrt to their older gen cards...

4> he has already given a budget...and we feel in that budget this is the best he gets...
lastly there is something called resale value....pci exp cards have good resale value..look at the agp front...its sad to say the least...if u feel the card aint upo to the job sell it..get a new one..wud be far cheaper than selling an old agp card...

this is pretty much what i thought b4 i opened my card for sale in this forum , and pretty much what i would suggest him b4 he emptys his pocket on superlow end:no: product of so called new technology which r even cant handle so called new technology..:rofl: :rofl: .........which changes in every 6 months regarding gfx.....
dude if u buy new system..it will b bettr only compared to ur system not buy todays standard....
look people i m not forcing him to buy 2nd hand item ...i posted b4 LET HIM DECIDE.........

It's obvious that a new PC would be better than one's old PC and maybe even VFM. But when you have better options at slightly higher price points, your budget would have to stretch. The question here is, why would one want to settle for less than best or what one considers good enough when selecting parts for a new PC.

It may not require additional power but you still need a PSU and cabby. This was not budgeted for. Check again and see.

If one wants the best price, one may not buy everything from the same shop. Even if one does, there is generally as assembly charge. Although minor, it's something to be considered. Anyway, it's just one factor to consider.

Why you don't see new GPUs with AGP is bcuz of exceedingly high power requirements of high end new generation cards thus requiring the bus to be capable of delivering more power. This and other vested interests of GPU companies has caused migration to PCI-E.
It's not always the case that AGP cards can't beat their next gen PCI-E cards. You have to see the range. i.e. low end, mid range, high end etc. Anyway, no point in going in further detail in this thread.

The budget is not enough to get a decent new PC.

This value you talk about in PCI-E cards, I have seen 15-20K PCI-E cards now retailing for 5K and this is a conservative estimate. So don't consider PCI-E as an investment. It depends on the generation, segment of card and what is currently available.
But in AGP, due to it's scarcity, PCI-E card of same segment and range is typically 1K cheaper than it's AGP counterpart.

Ok guys...as of now i understand its better to buy a new PC...and put a PCIE Graphics Card..

I heard that only Nvidia Cards are sold in ritchie street..

May be ill go for a new PC..but i guess it will take a month or two to buy a PC..

One more request guys plz post a PC with good configuration which will
come at least for 4 years from now..predominately for playing games...

I heard that AMD is good now a days better than intel..
 
i think he means one which will last him 4years without being called outdated...impossible mate..set the year timeline to a more reasonable on..
 
if you want a good time with your PC, I suggest you get a mid-end card enjoy it for a while before selling it off for a better one. each time you do it, make sure you dont lose more than 30-40% off the previous card. that way, you can have a really long GPU history :lol:
 
you need you sell the old rig :P

now day you need dual core and some few gpu card

amd 4000+ and jetway mo 690 5k como offer add+ 1 gb 1 k ram

also 8600 gt card 4-5k zeb or xfx
 
if you have a 40k budget

get an E8200 + Abit IP35-E + 2GB DDR2 800 Mhz + 250 GB + 8600GT et al and you have a PC which will be good nuff for 2 years
 
frankly speaking...gettin an agp card rit now is a dauntin task....i doubt it'll b der in d market.....but non d less strictly stickin to ur question 7600gt is d best card avail in indian market(if u get it tho) altho cards lik 7800 n all ver also avail in agp which ver quite gud....but as far as i remember dey neva turned up in indian market.
