Best books for various topics ?

I really like the "Let us C" book by kanetkar.

Are there any books like these - similar simplicity for

topics of networking, database systems, computer architecture and other topics apart from programming ?
They shouldn't be too theoretical but simple and intuitive to understand.

I used Douglas Comer's book on Internetworking, which gave good conceptual overview about networking without getting into the low-level details. For database systems, we used to refer book by Korth, Silberschatz, Sudarshan (Database system concepts), which was pretty good. But that was quite a few years ago, so there may be better books around

thx. my teachers recommended his book, and i cant distinguish a good author in CompSc except maybe by brands
