hi guys, this is shubbs...im an animation student. i do a lot of work with 3D Max, Maya, and Premier,Ps ,after effects n blender.
I am looking for a d best PC confu that would be good for all 3D programs. I need a screen size of at least 17 inches n above and with high end graphics card, it doesn't matter what company it is from and the cost.
plz recommend me the options considering ,most of these animation programs want openGL capable cards, good processor, a decent workstation video card that will work wonders, quality and complexity and desired speed while rendering,n gud RAM memory.

intel core i7 920

MSI

X58 Platinum

min 4gb corsair 1600mhz

Nvidia quadro or GTX 285

tagan 900

Cabinet I ball Stunner

may be a bluray,or else a sony dvd rw

Seagate 1 TB hard disk

Not a Quadro...a GTX295 wud be better, or HD5870...

U can softmod it to a QUADRO anywayz, and they charge exhoribantly high prices for a quadro tag..

Proccy- Intel Core i7 920 + Prolimatech Megahalems +2* Scythe Slipstream- 18.3k

M/B-GIGABYTE X58 Extreme - 18k approx

Ram-3*2GB Corsair XMS3 1600MHz- 8k approx

HDD-1*150GB WD Velociraptor (OS) +1TB WD Black (DATA) - 13k approx

Optical Drive-Sony SATA DVDRW-1.2k

Cabby-Coolermaster HAF 932-9k

PSU- Corsair HX850 -9.5k

GPU-ATI Radeon 5850 -17k

Total 94k.

leave Megahalems + Slipstream fans & it's -90k Total.

if you want even Cheaper then remove velociraptor will save you 7k. so total=83k

IMO from my past experience a Quadro or a FireGL can be a huge difference in rendering apps for studio works than using normal grfx cards, even a high-end desktop grfx card won't be fully utilised by most of the 3D rendering softwares. So even a Quatro FX1500 (15k) can do the job for you.

But if you are ready to spend more, get the new FX3800 or FireGL V7xxx series( don't know the pricing in India, check some stores...Leadtek sells most of the Quadros in India)

btw make sure to get a quality 24" monitor, an IPS panel monitor would be better even though if you have to pay twice the price of normal 22" or 24".

wow....this looks awesome!! thanks so much guys.......but im now confused wid the GPU.

ATI fireGL v7100s the most powerful offering in ATI's Visualization series, but heard its performance places it in the midrange of workstation graphics cards. so im thinking to go for new FX3800 which includes SLI Multi-OS feature, plz update me if i need to make any more changes.....

thanks again...u guys rock!! :)

V7100's gaming performance is about that of the mid-range desktop grfx cards, but hav rendering and 3D modeling capabilities of that of FX3xxx series starting range.

btw FX3800 is a great stuff....SLI Mulit-OS feature + CUDA will be great :)

get as much ram as possible, 8gb min you can go as much as 16gb. or you'll have your renderer crashing on you all the time.

p.s. yes ive had a frustrating day because of the 2gb of ram i have and vray crashing on me over and over again.

intel core i7 920

MSI X58 Platinum

4gb corsair 1600mhz

Nvidia Quadro FX 1800 (or) Quadro FX 580

tagan 900

Cabinet I ball Stunner

Seagate 1 TB hard disk

Present soft-mods of Geforce to Quadro will only accelerate DirectX, so its pretty much useless with Maya(but good value with 3ds max). A Quadro card is recommended for all-round stability.

You can really cut down on the costs of some of those parts listed!

Get the MSI X58 Pro-E board instead of the Gigabyte board and slash 10k straight from that pricing of yours. Invest in at least 6 GB of RAM.

The pricing of the WD Velociraptor 150GB is incorrect! It should read somewhere close to the 6~7k mark (WD1500HLFS).

WD Caviar Green and WD1001FALS are both different drives! The former is primarily/ideally meant for mass storage and the latter meant for the OS and likewise. The 1001FALS belongs to the Caviar Black series and costs roughly 6.2k.

The Corsair HX850 is not available in India as yet. A similar alternative is the Seasonic M12D 850 which s priced close to 10k. Or if modular cables are not a concern, you can opt for the Corsair TX850, which's priced at 8.5k IINM.

The pricing of the Quadro FX3800 - where did you get that? Just curious!

You need a better enclosure, preferably one of those full towers to permit good airflow inside the case. Ditch the idea of getting the iball and the likes.

Why not just soft-mod in Quadro? Its the BEST VFM SOLUTION for all Animation needs.

Here you go: Just go through this and you will know how easy it is to get 50% of quadro's performance from a GPU that costs 10% of the price: (Yes im pointing at Geforce 8800GTX or Geforce 9800GT soft-modded into their respective Quadros which cost 10 times more.)

Tech ARP - NVIDIA GeForce To Quadro Soft-Mod Guide Rev. 4.1

PS: Soft-modded GPU's performance is highly dependent on CPU and hence i expect an overclocked i7 920 processor to work wonders for the soft-modded GPU and make it cross the 50% performance barrier.

- For the i7 920, triple channel memory is recommended. So, go for multiples of 3GB or 6GB. For your config, a min. of 6GB would be recommended, i.e., 3x2GB or 3x3GB (would be better actually).

- If you don't plan on liquid cooling your rig, the HAF 922 is recommended. It's big enough for all your long graphic cards, and extra hard drives and costs 6k+change including taxes. Comes cheaper than the HAF 932. My friend bought HAF 922 recently and it has enough room for his liquid cooling components too (CPU only). If you would like to liquid cool GPU too, go for the HAF 932.

- If the Corsair HX850 is not available, I suggest the Seasonic. The 'HX' series are heavy duty. The same performance cannot be expected of a 'TX' series and the 'VX' series are the vfm ones.

- Gigabyte EX58-UD5 (not the EX58-UD3) is the best mobo in the market I think and it comes to around 18-20k. The 22k seems to be incorrect. Similiarly priced is the DFI Lan Party UT X58-T3eH8 which supports up to 24GB DDR3 RAM. Do not mistake this for the UT X58-T3eH6. The latter one is an inferior model.

HX series provides modular PSU and TX does not, and I do not think there is any other difference, But as we add modularity, the resistance in the path increases, so you might see some difference in the performance of the two series, favoured towards TX series.
